Business Development Representative

Level: P1

Location: Ottawa, ON | Hybrid

Reports To: Dylan Monsinger, Associate Manager, Business Development

Type: Permanent | Full-Time

About Solink

At Solink, our mission is to safeguard what matters most. We provide businesses with the tools to know sooner and act faster by transforming video security into real-time operational insights.

Our cloud-based platform integrates seamlessly with your existing cameras and systems, turning them into intelligent sensors that detect and interpret key moments. This empowers teams to make data-driven decisions, enhance security, and improve operational efficiency.

Trusted by over 35,000 locations across 60+ countries - including brands like McDonald's and JYSK - Solink delivers clarity when it counts. Our solutions help businesses reduce shrink, optimize performance, and respond proactively to potential threats.

We're growing rapidly, earning industry recognition, and scaling with purpose. We've been recognized by Deloitte's Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, Business Intelligence Group, and as one of Ottawa's Best Places to Work. And we're just getting started!

The Role

As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Solink, you will play a crucial role in driving the growth of our business by identifying and generating new business opportunities. Your responsibilities will involve a variety of outreach and organizational tasks that help the Sales team increase velocity and revenue.

This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about tech, security, and the varying industries that we serve. If you possess excellent communication skills and enjoy the challenge of connecting with potential clients and seeing your connections convert to customers, this opportunity may be the perfect role for you!

What You'll Do

Prospect Target Accounts: Identify and reach out to new customers - focusing on businesses with 1-25 physical locations in key industries like Retail, Restaurants, and Convenience/Gas.
Qualify and Convert Leads: Conduct thoughtful discovery conversations to qualify inbound and outbound leads, ensuring they align with Solink's ideal customer profile before handing off to Account Executives.
Respond with Urgency: Act as the first point of contact for inbound inquiries, providing timely, professional responses that spark interest and move conversations forward.
Drive Pipeline Growth: Consistently book qualified meetings with high-potential prospects to support Account Executives and accelerate the sales cycle.
Execute Proactive Outreach: Use cold calls, personalized emails, and social touches to generate new opportunities and introduce Solink to untapped accounts.
Leverage Sales Tech: Utilize tools like LinkedIn, Gong, Loom, ZoomInfo, and HubSpot to optimize your outreach and maintain meticulous records of all activity in the CRM.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with Account Executives to align on outreach strategy, share learnings from the field, and drive collective success.
Showcase Solink at Events: Represent Solink at trade shows and industry events - sparking conversations, building relationships, and generating leads face-to-face.

Role Expectations

This is a P1 level role. At Solink, individuals at this level are entry-level employees who have relevant work or educational experience and are eager to grow and develop by collaborating on team-wide tasks and initiatives, with direction provided from their manager or more senior colleagues.

What You Bring

Must-Have:

Business-Savvy Communicator: You hold a university degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field - or bring equivalent experience - and have strong communication and time management skills to match.
Resilient Problem Solver: You're adaptable, persistent, and able to navigate challenges with creativity and grit. You don't get discouraged - you find solutions.
Executive-Level Conversationalist: You're comfortable speaking with anyone, from small business owners to VPs and C-level executives at Fortune 1000 companies.
Tech-Curious & Value-Driven: You're naturally interested in technology and get excited about the impact it can have on how businesses operate and grow.
Prepared & Insightful: You do your homework. You research your prospects, tailor your messaging, and understand that relevance and preparation are key to successful outreach.
Tenacious & Target-Oriented: You know that success in sales is built on consistency and follow-through. You're driven by results, disciplined in your process, and thrive on exceeding goals - not just meeting them.
Team Player with Individual Hustle: You work well independently, but you're also energized by being part of a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Coachable & Growth-Minded: You're constantly learning and open to feedback. You actively invest in your own growth and share what you learn to lift up others.
Thrives in High Gear: You love a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment and know how to stay focused, organized, and motivated under pressure.

Nice-to-Have:

Proven experience in a sales or business development role.
Experience in cold calling and/or hunting.
You have familiarity with CRM software (HubSpot preferred).

Security Requirements

Candidates must undergo a criminal records check upon hire;
Be a Canadian Citizen (dual citizens included), or eligible to work in Canada;
Be willing to comply with Solink's own security policies and standards.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $68,500 - $85,000 CAD in on-target earnings (OTE), structured as base salary and variable compensation. At Solink, we're committed to a simple and transparent approach to compensation. Pay is determined based on several factors, including your location, experience, job-related skills, and how you demonstrate them throughout the interview process. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, with a focus on fairness, internal equity, and the impact you'll have in this role.

Our Values

We do things the Solink way:

Act with URGENCY – Our customers move fast, so we do too.
Deliver with QUALITY – We sweat the details and hold a high bar.
Win with TEAM – No egos. Just outcomes, built together.
Lead with TRUST – We earn it through clarity, consistency, and care.

These aren't just words - they shape how we hire, lead, and grow.

Why Solink?

We're not just building tech - we're building a place where great people do great work.

Clarity and trust: Where the role allows, we support flexibility in how and where work gets done - and we're upfront about what's required.
Meaningful equity: Every full-time, permanent employee has a stake in our growth.
Comprehensive benefits: Fully paid health & dental (no waiting period) + $500 health spending account.
Wellness support: Monthly reimbursement for fitness, wellness, or mental health programs.
Growth through merit: Advancement is based on contribution, initiative, and the ability to raise the bar - together.
Candid culture: Clear expectations, honest feedback, and no politics.
Social connection: From So-learns to Solink-o and So-lunches, we stay connected in ways that actually feel fun.

We respect your time and value transparency. Here's a general idea of what to expect:

Intro call with our Talent Team (30-45 minutes)
Interview with BD Manager (~45 minutes)
