Quality Inspector – Sudbury
Full-time, permanent | Monday to Friday, day shift Reports to: General Manager (dotted line to QHS Director) Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 per year
About the role
The Quality Inspector is the hands-on quality presence on the Sudbury shop floor. Working across our Fab Shop and Rubber Shop, you will carry out the inspections and tests set out in each project’s Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), witness hold points, raise and follow non-conformances, and build and sign the inspection records and release documents our mining and industrial customers rely on.
The role is about making sure what leaves the plant matches the drawing, the specification and the customer’s expectations, every time.
ITPs and technical review of customer specifications are provided by project and quality leadership; the Inspector applies them on the floor and feeds back what is and is not working.
What you will do
Inspection and testing
- Carry out receiving, in-process and final inspections per the project ITP, drawings and customer specifications.
- Witness and sign hold points and witness points; coordinate third-party and customer inspectors on site.
- Perform dimensional inspection of fabricated pipe, spools and assemblies (fit-up, alignment, flange faces, tolerances).
- Perform visual weld inspection and coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT, RT) with external providers; review and file NDT reports.
- Inspect rubber lining and coating work: surface preparation, lining thickness, adhesion, holiday (spark) testing, cure verification and final appearance.
- Verify hydrostatic and pressure tests and record results.
Non-conformance and corrective action
- Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) for material, workmanship and process deviations; work with supervisors to contain, disposition and close them.
- Exercise stop-work authority on quality grounds when product or process does not meet requirements, and escalate to the General Manager.
- Track repeat issues by shop and work order and bring trends to site and quality leadership.
Records and release documentation
- Compile inspection records, MTRs, NDT reports, test results and certificates into project data books and manufacturer’s data reports.
- Prepare and sign inspection reports, certificates of conformance and release documents for customer shipment.
- Keep calibration records current for measuring and test equipment.
Floor support and continuous improvement
- Review Travellers and ITPs at job launch with supervisors so inspection points are planned, not discovered.
- Coach welders, fitters and rubber liners on inspection criteria and common defects.
- Feed back where ITPs, templates or procedures need to change, and support internal and customer audits as the site’s floor-level quality contact.
- Follow all Soluroc health, safety and environmental rules and wear required PPE.
What you bring
Required
- 3+ years of quality inspection experience in metal fabrication, piping, pressure equipment or a related industrial shop.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols and customer specifications.
- Working knowledge of ITPs, hold/witness points, NCR processes and inspection record keeping.
- Confident with measuring and test equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, thickness gauges, holiday testers).
- Clear written English for inspection reports and customer-facing documents; comfortable with Excel and basic document systems.
- Able to work on the shop floor around overhead cranes, welding and rubber-lining operations and lift up to 25 kg.
Assets
- CWB Welding Inspector Level 1 or 2 (CSA W178.2), or willingness to obtain Level 1 within the first year with company support; CGSB NDT certification.
- NACE/AMPP coating inspector certification or hands-on rubber lining / elastomer inspection experience.
- Knowledge of or experience with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), ASME B31.3, CSA B51 / TSSA or ISO 9001 environments.
- Experience supporting major mining customers and their inspection expectations.

Shop-floor role in a rubber lining and pipe fabrication facility. Standing and walking most of the day; exposure to noise, fumes and solvents with appropriate PPE and controls. Occasional overtime around shipment deadlines and customer witness inspections.
