Role Summary

Sonele is seeking a hands-on Robotics and Mechatronics Engineer to develop robotic and precision electromechanical systems for medical device projects. You will design, program, integrate, and test systems that may include six degree of freedom robots, positioning stages, actuators, sensors, and custom end effectors.

You will take technical ownership of assigned projects or major workstreams, working with the Engineering Manager and colleagues across mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality engineering. Depending on the program, you may also contribute to medical device development projects that do not involve robotics.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute assigned robotics and mechatronics development work, from requirements and concept development through prototyping, integration, testing, and documentation.
Personally write, debug, and refine programs for robots and motion-control systems.
Design and integrate robots, precision positioning systems, end effectors, actuators, sensors, and related mechanical assemblies.
Develop 3D models, mechanical drawings, bills of materials, and specifications using SolidWorks.
Select components and evaluate requirements such as payload, reach, accuracy, repeatability, speed, and cycle time.
Integrate mechanical systems with controls, software, machine vision, and safety features in collaboration with other engineers.
Assemble and commission prototypes, troubleshoot system-level issues, and implement improvements.
Develop test methods and perform testing to confirm that systems meet their requirements.
Prepare assembly, operating, test, and manufacturing documentation.
Work with suppliers and internal teams to assess manufacturability, cost, component availability, and lead times.
Contribute to other medical device development projects, including non-robotic mechanical and electromechanical systems.
Communicate technical progress, decisions, and risks to the Engineering Manager, project teams, and customers.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
At least three years of hands-on experience developing robotic, automated, or motion-controlled systems.
Demonstrated experience personally programming, integrating, and commissioning robots or motion-control systems.
Experience working with motors, drives, encoders, actuators, sensors, and control hardware.
Strong 3D CAD skills, preferably with SolidWorks, and the ability to produce mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.
Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical systems and work effectively with mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
Understanding of precision positioning, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design for manufacture and assembly.
Ability to organize your work, take ownership of technical deliverables, and communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.

Assets

Experience developing medical devices or other regulated products.
Familiarity with ISO 13485, design controls, risk management, and design verification.
Experience with industrial or collaborative six degree of freedom robots, PLC-controlled equipment, machine vision, or robot simulation and offline programming.
Experience with SolidWorks PDM and manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.

Salary Range

CAD $70,000–$90,000 annually
