Principal Software Engineer

A leading financial technology pioneer in Downtown Toronto is looking for a high level Staff Software Engineer to join their growing development studio. This organization operates like a tech company within a bank, focusing on cloud native solutions, machine learning, and conversational AI to redefine the consumer credit experience for millions of users.

As a senior technical leader, you will be deeply involved in hands on development, high level design, and architectural strategy. While this is an individual contributor role without direct reports, you will serve as a mentor to junior and intermediate developers and act as a technical authority for cross functional, multi platform systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for the development of fault tolerant, large scale application systems
• Own the architectural design process and follow high level design methodologies
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices and code review standards
• Identify gaps in internal frameworks and tools to improve the overall developer experience
• Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting for complex software problems
• Mentor junior staff to foster a culture of technical excellence

Required Skills and Experience

• At least 6 years of professional development experience using Java, Python, or Go
• Strong background in application and data design and architecture
• Proven experience with cloud platforms, with a strong preference for AWS
• Demonstrated ability to guide technical stakeholders and mentor engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Over 8 years of experience managing the full software development life cycle
• Advanced degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related engineering field
• Solid experience working in agile environments

Salary Range

The expected base salary for this position is between 173,000 and 197,400 CAD, plus eligibility for performance based incentive bonuses.
