The Opportunity
South Bow is seeking an experienced and diligent Manager, Pipe Integrity to lead the team responsible for the safety, reliability and compliance of our pipeline assets. Reporting to the Director, Pipeline Integrity, this role provides technical and people leadership across integrity threat management, engineering assessments, preventative and mitigative programs, and long-term asset risk strategy. This leader will lead subject matter experts in integrity, welding, materials, damage prevention, and data to further develop our team’s high-performance culture. They will foster continuous improvement in our management of processes, standards, and specifications to keep us safe and competitive. They will interface and influence regulators (Canada and the USA) and industry associations to help the industry succeed in our safety goals. They will make recommendations on complex integrity matters, and work across the organization to reduce failures, prevent unplanned outages and improve asset performance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the Pipe Integrity team in identifying, assessing and mitigating integrity threats across the pipeline asset lifecycle.
- Oversee engineering assessments, analysis, troubleshooting and timely response to urgent integrity issues that could affect safe operations or throughput.
- Develop and advance long-term threat management strategies, integrity plans, preventative and mitigative programs, and operations and maintenance plans.
- Establish priorities, resources and performance measures for integrity programs, including tracking key performance indicators and driving continuous improvement.
- Provide governance and subject matter expertise for growth, reliability and maintenance projects, risk assessments, mitigation decisions and the management of change process.
- Guide the optimization and maintenance of engineering specifications, standards, procedures and technical practices.
- Build team capability through clear expectations, coaching, performance management, development planning, mentorship and staffing decisions.
- Partner with Operations, Projects, Regulatory and other Engineering teams to resolve integrity issues and support safe, reliable asset performance.
- Participate in field and site visits, provide on-call support as required, and support controlled response to abnormal or emergency conditions.
- Interface and influence Canadian and American regulators and industry associations to help the industry succeed in our safety goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing.
- 15 or more years of experience across engineering, pipeline integrity and management. .
- Demonstrated experience leading professional engineers and technical specialists, including formal accountability for performance, development and staffing.
- Experience solving complex, ambiguous and cross-disciplinary technical problems with broad operational, safety or regulatory impact.
- Experience developing and executing pipeline integrity programs, threat management strategies, engineering assessments and risk mitigation plans.
- Regulatory and industry influence experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading integrity work across the full pipeline asset lifecycle, including inspection, assessment, repair, mitigation and ongoing monitoring.
- Knowledge of pipeline integrity management systems, engineering governance, management of change, technical standards and regulatory compliance practices.
- Proven ability to influence decisions, negotiate outcomes and gain alignment among stakeholders with differing technical or business perspectives.
- Experience using performance measures and asset data to improve program maturity, data quality, reliability and risk reduction outcomes.
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver’s licence and provide a driver’s abstract for review.
- Travel to company, field or remote locations, including occasional overnight travel.
- Work occasionally in outdoor and industrial environments where noise, hydrocarbons, chemicals, dust or fumes may be present.
- Be part of an on-call rotation and provide support outside regular hours as required.
- Successfully complete all applicable pre-employment screening and background checks.
