Original job description
About Spawn: We're students building an app for making spontaneous social gatherings easy. You can easily let your groups of friends know what you're up to, whether grabbing lunch, playing basketball, or hosting a get-together. Then, they're able to see that through their notifications, then join in from the app's home feed and map view. We've built out the core app, as seen on the app store below, but are working on applying finishing touches, and might want to explore further features.
- Check out the app, Spawn: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/spawn/id6738635871

About the Codebases You'll Contribute To:
- Back-end (core codebase): https://github.com/daggerpov/spawn-app-back-end
- iOS (core codebase): https://github.com/Daggerpov/Spawn-App-iOS-SwiftUI
- Android (inactive): https://github.com/ethan-dsouza-dev/Spawn-App-Android-Kotlin
About the Role: This is a very flexible, but unfortunately, unpaid role (sorry, we're only students) to help work on our iOS & Backend project codebases and deployments, addressing bug fixes, UI improvements, then potentially exploring further feature development. We have well laid-out UI designs in Figma so this is a pure coding role, but being in touch with UX and knowing what 'feels right' to the end user is important, since our main aim now is to polish the app's last few bug fixes and UI touch-ups to make it frictionless to use.
What You'll Gain: Experience working on a fully-featured and designed mobile app, already available on the App Store (definitely a nice-to-have on your resume), which has a mature codebase and interesting technologies: Redis, SQL, AWS (S3, Cloudfront), Swift, Java Spring. I can say that having this on my resume helped me land iOS interviews with Apple, Ramp, and Lyft.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with iOS development in Swift/SwiftUI or other similar frontend technologies such as React/React Native, backend development in Java Spring Boot or similar API development, plus, fundamental knowledge of SQL databases, CI/CD with GitHub, caching with Redis.
Being AI-Native is a must, as knowing the exact technologies isn't as important as being able to learn and adapt quickly to our tech stack and be productive in our codebases.

We also maintain a React site for internal admin (bug/feedback reports, etc.) but it's not vital, and already setup. So, we won't need help on that front, just with the main app product.
