Estimator – Architectural Facades

Specified is an established, well-respected building envelope contractor delivering commercial and institutional roofing, cladding and waterproofing projects across Ontario. As part of our continued growth, we have launched a dedicated Architectural Facades division, and we are hiring a Senior Estimator to help build it.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a new division inside a stable, growing company: you will influence how the estimating function is built, develop relationships with the design and construction community, and become an integral part of the division’s long-term success.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Estimating & Preconstruction, the Senior Estimator will lead estimating for the Architectural Facades division. The role requires deep knowledge of commercial cladding systems, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to produce accurate, competitive estimates while supporting the division’s strategic growth. You will be equally comfortable preparing detailed estimates, engaging with clients and consultants, and helping develop estimating procedures and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead estimating for commercial cladding and building envelope projects
• Review tender documents, specifications, drawings and contract requirements
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for labour, materials, equipment and subcontracted work
• Solicit, evaluate and negotiate quotations from suppliers, fabricators and subcontractors
• Develop accurate project budgets, estimates and tender submissions
• Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative construction solutions
• Assess project risk and develop appropriate pricing strategies
• Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits and client meetings as required
• Work closely with project management to ensure a smooth handover following award
• Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, consultants, architects, suppliers and manufacturers
• Help develop estimating systems, cost databases, productivity rates and standard costing models
• Monitor market conditions, material pricing and industry trends
• Mentor and support junior estimators as the division grows
• Contribute to business development and strategic planning for the division
• Maintain a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality throughout the tendering process

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of estimating experience in commercial cladding, building envelope or facade construction
• Strong knowledge of ACM panel systems, aluminum plate, metal wall panels, insulated metal panels, standing seam, fibre cement panels, wood siding, rainscreen systems and architectural wall systems
• Thorough understanding of commercial construction practices and contract documentation
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and shop drawings
• Experience estimating projects ranging from approximately $250,000 to $10 million or more
• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities
• Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tenders under deadline
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, estimating software or similar take-off tools is an asset

Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Technology or a related discipline
• Previous experience mentoring or managing estimating staff
• Established relationships with general contractors, consultants, architects and suppliers in the commercial construction market
