Original job description

This Is SPG Canada.

Canada’s specialty insurance market is evolving fast - and we are right at the center of it.

SPG Canada is one of the country’s most ambitious specialty P&C insurance organizations. We have grown from a collection of respected legacy brands into a unified, national platform - and we are still accelerating. Today we operate at scale across commercial, personal, and specialty lines, serving brokers nationwide through a broad and expanding product suite.

Who We Are

We are a leading specialty MGA built for the Canadian market. Our broker distribution model, deep vertical expertise, and 24/7 digital platform set us apart from traditional carriers. We move faster, think harder about niche market needs, and go where others hesitate to follow. Our vision is to be the undisputed leader in specialty insurance in Canada - the faster, more trusted, higher quality choice.

Job Description

Introduction

We are HUB International's MGA and Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprise (DUAE) division - insurance entrepreneurs united by a bold vision: to aggregate strengths and deliver unmatched value as Canada's largest DUAE.

We exist to satisfy insurance needs in our target markets faster, better, and even where others can't. We do this by consolidating the best underwriting talent and specialty expertise within one coast-to-coast division, delivering speed, service, and solutions at a national scale.

But what truly sets us apart is our people. Here, you will be part of a collaborative, growing team that values innovation, professional development, and shared success. Our culture is built on entrepreneurial thinking, open communication, and a strong sense of purpose. We believe in empowering our employees to take ownership, contribute ideas, and grow their careers within a supportive and dynamic environment.

Together, we are building more than a market leader - we are building a place where talented professionals can thrive.

Job Overview

We are currently looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our growing team. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support our underwriters in their day-to-day tasks. Working as part of a team, you are responsible for the efficiency and accuracy of insurance policy documents.

This is hybrid position with the standard of 3 days in our offices.

Responsibilities

Complete renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority
Perform underwriting support functions including bind confirmations and preparing Certificates of Insurance
Amend or update quotes based on instructions of underwriters
Coordinate with underwriting areas to research and resolve escalated underwriting issues
Support managers, underwriters, and coworkers with general administrative tasks
Maintain and innovate administrative workflow procedures to increase efficiency and productivity
Communicate internally with other departments via email, Microsoft Teams, and telephone
Communicate externally with brokers as required
Build and maintain electronic, and any applicable hard copy, records following established guidelines and processes

Qualifications

You’re a good fit if you have:

At least 1–2 years of experience with transferable skills in customer service, administration, or insurance

Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge
Familiarity with basic legal structures in Canada
Excellent typing proficiency and strong communication skills
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel
