Administrative Assistant – Child Care Certification & Credential Assessment | Onsite, Edmonton AB (3 Openings)
Help shape the future of child care in Alberta.
We’re hiring three Administrative Assistants to join a Government of Alberta ministry team in downtown Edmonton. You’ll be the first point of contact for educators, child care operators, parents and the public. You’ll also play a direct role in certifying the professionals who care for Alberta’s children.
This is more than an admin role. You’ll assess real credentials, make certification decisions and help improve the systems behind them.
What you’ll do
Client Service & Communication
- Be the go-to contact for phone and email inquiries from educators, operators, parents and stakeholders
- Explain certification requirements, policies, assessment processes and upgrading options clearly and respectfully
- Handle high call volumes, prioritize urgent matters and de-escalate difficult conversations with professionalism
Credential Assessment & Certification
- Assess Canadian and international educational credentials against Alberta Child Care Staff Certification standards
- Review programs of study and make certification decisions or recommendations in line with legislation and policy
- Manage first-level certification appeals, and review staff qualification exemptions within your assigned authority
Information Systems & Records
- Enter, maintain and review client data in CCIS and ECDS
- Open, update and manage client files, and verify documents for completeness and accuracy
- Monitor data quality and flag issues for follow-up
Team & Stakeholder Support
- Provide administrative support: file management, scanning, data entry, correspondence and document processing
- Help clients and staff with forms, online applications and submissions
- Support training of new assessors and administrative staff
- Liaise with educational institutions, assessment bodies and other jurisdictions to verify credentials
- Contribute to process improvements, system testing and new guides, forms and communication materials
What you bring
- Proven experience in administrative, clerical or client-facing service roles
- Strong judgment when applying policies, procedures or regulations
- Experience reviewing documents, records or credentials for accuracy (an asset)
- Comfort handling high volumes of calls and emails while staying calm and courteous
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and data entry accuracy
- Experience with education, child care, licensing, certification or government environments is a strong asset
Why this role
- Meaningful public-sector work with a direct impact on Alberta families
- Three new positions, so the ministry is building a team, not filling a single seat
- Laptop, system access and a fully equipped office provided
- Paid mandatory training in privacy (FOIP), cybersecurity, information management and Respect in the Workplace
- Stable Monday–Friday schedule, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM, with provincial holidays off
