About Sprout
Sprout is a volunteer-run not-for-profit working at the intersection of community, data & AI, and climate change to strengthen communities’ capacity to bounce forward from climate impacts. We help community groups advocate for their needs and find solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges exacerbated by the changing climate.
About ClimateLens
ClimateLens is an evolving initiative at the intersection of climate change, data, and mental health. The project is transitioning from a research-focused mandate toward active advocacy around the mental health impacts of climate change on individuals and communities. Our MVP 3, a taxonomy of climate anxiety, is in its early stages.
The Role
As Project Manager, you’ll be the operational backbone of ClimateLens. You’ll coordinate people, priorities, and timelines, keep contributors unblocked, and keep the team aligned with our advocacy mission. You’ll connect technical and non-technical teams and help foster accountability and collaboration across a distributed volunteer environment.
Role Details
- Role level: Mid-level (3-7 years of experience)
- Time commitment: 7-10 hours per week
- Start date: February 1, 2027
- Duration: 1 year (possible extension depending on projects)
- Reports to: Strategic Lead
- Check-ins: Biweekly sprint meetings and monthly meetings with Strategic Lead(s)
What You’ll Do
- Oversee the ClimateLens timeline, milestones, scope, and deliverables
- Coordinate priorities, timelines, and dependencies across research, technical, product, and outreach teams
- Facilitate Agile stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and project check-ins
- Maintain workflows, tickets, documentation, and dashboards in Linear, with high-level milestone tracking through GitHub
- Identify blockers and risks and coordinate mitigation
- Make sure contributors have clear responsibilities, expectations, and deadlines
- Help turn research and technical findings into project plans, workshops, and outreach activities
- Provide structured project updates to leadership
- Support outreach with schools, community organizations, and other partners
What We’re Looking For
- Exceptional communication skills across remote tools (Slack, Google Meet), including clear documentation and actionable meeting summaries
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with experience overseeing end-to-end timelines and managing multiple subteams and deadlines
- Solid understanding of Agile, with hands-on experience facilitating stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint planning
- Proficiency with project management tools (tickets, cross-team dependencies, task boards)
- High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills
- Previous experience as a project manager
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and technical concepts
Nice to Have
- Background in environmental, climate, or community-focused projects
- Familiarity with data & AI projects or civic tech
- Experience in volunteer or distributed teams in nonprofit or social impact contexts
- Experience supporting research in social science, mental health, climate, computational language, or other interdisciplinary fields
- Passion for climate justice, community empowerment, and participatory data storytelling
- Experience with outreach to educational institutions or local communities
