Sprung Studios is looking for a Finance Manager to join our team in Vancouver.
We're seeking a Finance Manager to oversee day-to-day financial operations across our Canadian and UK studios. This is a hands-on role covering full-cycle bookkeeping, Canadian payroll, UK payroll review and payment coordination, Canadian RRSP or pension administration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, cash-flow management, month-end close, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting.
The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, Canadian and UK HR Managers, Canadian and UK Office Managers, external accountants, payroll providers, pension providers, tax advisers, clients, suppliers, and banking partners. This role is ideal for someone comfortable working independently, managing recurring deadlines, handling confidential information, and supporting finance operations across two countries and currencies.

The Role
Payroll & Benefits
- Manage Canadian payroll processing end-to-end.
- Administer Canadian RRSP/pension programs in conjunction with the HR Manager.
- Review UK payroll prepared by the external UK payroll provider.
- Review and coordinate UK workplace pension information.
- Process UK payroll payments in accordance with the approved PAYE payroll.
Bookkeeping & Reconciliations
- Maintain full-cycle bookkeeping for the Canadian and UK studios.
- Maintain the general ledger.
- Code transactions to the correct entity, currency, department, project, and account.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
- Reconcile payroll, pensions, payment platforms, and intercompany accounts.
- Record CAD and GBP transactions.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and payroll journals.
- Record foreign-exchange adjustments.
- Complete the monthly close process.
- Reconcile balance-sheet accounts.
- Investigate unexplained variances.
- Review receipts supplied by the Office Managers.
- Identify missing, duplicate, or incorrectly coded expenses.
- Maintain organized records for accountants, auditors, and advisers.
Accounts Payable & Purchasing
- Review approved purchase requests.
- Process purchases within company policy and approval limits.
- Review supplier invoices for accuracy and approval.
- Check coding, entity, currency, tax treatment, and supporting documents.
- Arrange payment of approved invoices.
- Prepare payment instructions for CEO approval.
- Maintain the payment calendar.
- Maintain the accounts-payable aging report.
- Verify supplier bank details.
- Reconcile supplier statements.
- Record payment approvals and confirmations.
- Escalate unusual, duplicate, urgent, or high-value payments.
Accounts Receivable & Invoicing
- Prepare and send client invoices.
- Use the correct Canadian or UK entity.
- Check amounts, currency, tax, projects, milestones, and purchase orders.
- Track invoices and payment dates.
- Reconcile client payments.
- Follow up on overdue invoices.
- Maintain the accounts-receivable ageing report.
- Escalate disputed or overdue balances.
- Prepare approved credit notes and invoice corrections.
Month-End Reporting & Cash Management
- Prepare monthly management accounts.
- Prepare profit-and-loss reports.
- Prepare balance-sheet schedules.
- Prepare cash-flow reports.
- Report accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Prepare budget-versus-actual reports.
- Explain significant variances.
- Prepare combined reporting where required.
- Maintain a rolling cash-flow forecast.
- Monitor payroll, pension, tax, supplier, and subscription payments.
- Identify CAD and GBP funding requirements.
- Monitor significant foreign-exchange requirements.
- Maintain the finance deadline calendar.
- Escalate cash-flow risks and significant issues.
Coordination, Controls & Process Improvement
- Liaise with Canadian and UK accountants.
- Liaise with payroll and pension providers.
- Liaise with tax advisers and banks.
- Support financial due diligence.
- Gather and reconcile requested financial information.
- Prepare schedules for revenue, expenses, payroll, cash, debt, and intercompany balances.
- Identify missing information and unusual transactions.
- Maintain approval controls for payroll, payments, expenses, and credit notes.
- Maintain an audit trail for approvals and payments.
- Separate transaction approval from processing and reconciliation where possible.
- Improve finance, payroll, invoicing, and reporting processes.
- Improve the use of finance and accounting systems.
- Protect confidential financial and employee information.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of progressive experience in accounting, full-cycle bookkeeping, or financial operations.
- Diploma or degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
- Demonstrated experience with AP, AR, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close.
- Experience coordinating or reviewing Canadian payroll and employee benefit/pension contributions.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, with experience using a modern accounting system.
- Comfortable working with both CAD and GBP transactions and supporting multi-entity accounting.
Assets
- Experience supporting a UK entity or working with UK payroll and accounting providers.
- Familiarity with UK PAYE, National Insurance, workplace pensions, or VAT.
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll processes.
- Progress toward or completion of a CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in technology, video games, professional services, or another project-based environment.

Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000
