Position Summary
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who each make an impact. As the Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager, you will lead and champion the continuous improvement initiatives at the Mississauga, Ontario facility, driving sustainable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and customer value.
This role is responsible for leading the deployment of Lean methodologies, identifying opportunities to eliminate waste, improving manufacturing processes, optimizing system design, control costs, reducing inventory, and increasing operational productivity. The CI Manager will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to establish priorities, develop improvement strategies, and ensure that improvements are effectively implemented and sustained.
The CI Manager will collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Product Engineering, Customer Support and Supply Chain to identify opportunities, resolve process and technical issues, and implement solutions that improve operational performance and customer experience. The role will also support the development of a culture of employee engagement, problem-solving, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset across the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Process Optimization and Operations
- Strong emphasis on process performance, flow, methods and standards, technology and sustainable solutions.
- Lead and deploy the Continuous Improvement system across the facility, establishing priorities, standards, and methodologies that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and customer value.
- Identify, prioritize, and lead high-impact improvement initiatives to eliminate waste, improve process capability, cycle time and financial results.
- Validate operation cycle times and reconcile with costing model.
- Partner with functional leaders to integrate continuous improvement into daily management, monitor execution, remove barriers, and ensure actions are completed with sustainable results.
- Lead Kaizen initiatives including pre-work, event execution, implementation, measurement of results, and follow-up to ensure improvements are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Lead and facilitate Value Stream Mapping and other process-analysis tools to evaluate end-to-end processes, identify waste, constraints, bottlenecks, and opportunities, and establish improvement priorities.
- Build organizational capability in Lean and continuous improvement by coaching leaders, supervisors, and employees, developing problem-solving skills, and deploying standardized Lean principles throughout the facility.
- Lead and support the design and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, systems, and work cells, including automation, material flow, assembly cells, and facility layouts, with consideration for safety, ergonomics, quality, efficiency, and scalability.
- Establish and monitor performance measures to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of improvement initiatives, including productivity, cost, quality, lead time, inventory, capacity, and other key operational metrics.
2. Technical Support and Data Analysis
- Establish and maintain data collection and measurement systems that provide accurate, timely, and reliable information for monitoring process and operational performance.
- Analyze manufacturing and operational data to identify trends, performance gaps, process variation, constraints, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and maintain performance dashboards and reports using relevant operational and financial metrics, including productivity, throughput, scrap, downtime, OEE, quality, labour efficiency, capacity, lead time, inventory, and cost.
- Lead structured problem-solving and root cause analysis for complex manufacturing and operational issues, applying appropriate analytical and statistical tools such as Pareto, 5-Why, Fishbone, PFMEA, and other methodologies.
- Evaluate process and equipment performance through technical analysis, time studies, capacity analysis, process mapping, and other engineering methods to identify constraints and recommend improvements.
- Support capital equipment and automation initiatives through technical and financial analysis, including capacity requirements, productivity, labour impact, utilization, payback, and return on investment.
- Translate analysis into actionable recommendations and validate results, communicating findings, risks, and expected benefits to leadership while establishing baselines and measuring post-implementation performance to ensure improvements are effective and sustained.
3. Projects and Change Management
- Coordinate and manage projects related to cost savings and process improvement.
- Lead annual cost savings projects by identifying opportunities and executing through process and operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with leadership to understand production goals, provide technical guidance and comprehensive data to assist with decision making.
- Working in cross functional teams to ensure seamless integration of process improvements.
- Coach, motivate, and lead the teams to institute principles for sustaining the gains of each initiative.
- Participate in other projects assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and operational plan.
- Participate in Centers of Excellence to Share Best Practices and Continuously Improve the SPX Business System (CI Program).
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 7-10+ years of demonstrated application of Lean methodologies and decision making.
- Change management and lean transformation with an understanding of how to build employee engagement and sustain behavioral change.
- Demonstrated success leading cross functional improvements and influence without direct authority.
- Results oriented with a business mindset with ability to teach how to solve problems and improve customer value and business performance.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing process development, equipment, automation cell design, material flow, capacity analysis and facility layout.
- Understanding financial analysis and business fundamentals, including cost savings, productivity benefits, ROI, payback and capital investment analysis.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking to interpret complex data, identify patterns and determine root cause rather than treating symptoms.
- Knowledge of ERP system, scheduling and PFEP.
- Project management skills with prior experience successfully leading and implementing process improvement initiatives
- Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Problems solving and data analysis skills (8D, 5-Whys, statistics, etc.)
- Experience with CI tools/ events such as kanban, material conveyance, production flow, value stream mapping, takt-time analysis, standardized work, 5S, visual management, poka-yoke, etc.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications. Able to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel and Word
Education & Formal Training
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business) is required
- Formal Lean training such as green belt or black belt
- Formal Project Management and Change Management such as PMP
- Financial Acumen
- Automation background would be an asset
Travel & Working Environment
- Possible travel that includes visits to other facilities locally for short term.
- Frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Manufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot, eye and ear protection when in production areas. Must be able to split time between the plant floor and office environment, as required.

Compensation Disclosure
- For use by Ontario employers with 25 or more employees, for positions with expected compensation of $200,000 CAD /year or less.
The expected hourly wage rate for this position is between $90,000 and $127,300 per year. This range reflects the anticipated compensation for the role, based on factors such as qualifications, experience and market conditions.
