Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Compensation: CA$115,000 - CA$145,000 / year

Description

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a bilingual (French/English) Senior Environmental or Water Resources Engineer to work with our surface water team, focused on mine water management, based in Eastern Canada (Montreal, Quebec City, Sudbury or Toronto).

Our surface water team interacts regularly with our other technical groups (hydrogeology, geochemistry, civil/geotechnical engineering) as part of our Canada Geoenvironmental group, creating substantial opportunity for cross-discipline learning. Our projects assist domestic and international mining projects from a wide range of commodities and mining approaches to responsibly manage water through the full mining cycle, from planning through closure.

Key Responsibilities

The position will involve the following range of typical activities:

  • Execution and leadership of engineering projects related to mine water management at all phases of the mine life, including planning, construction, operations, closure, and reclamation.
  • Preparation and review of engineering calculations, models, and methods.
  • Preparing, or assisting in preparing, drawings, technical reports and memos.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary teams with hydrotechnical, hydrogeological, geochemical, and civil disciplines.
  • Development of water and load balance models to inform site water management decisions.
  • Hydraulic analysis and design, to inform pump, pipeline, channel, and spillway conveyance.
  • Climatic and hydrological modelling in a variety of geographies to inform site water management.
  • Water quality/treatment process assessments to inform water treatment design.
  • The need to attend site visits and complete water management field work in Ontario, Quebec, and eastern Canada. Opportunities for project work also exist globally.
  • Active engagement in development and/or advancement of SRK’s engineering practice.
  • Active engagement and participation in business development.
  • Active engagement in mentoring others.

This position is a hybrid work arrangement (office and remote). SRK understands the need for a balance of both work and life and can offer flexible working hours to accommodate these needs.

Essential Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in environmental, civil, water resources, or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant consulting experience in the mining industry.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills using MS Office are required.
  • Registered or eligible for professional registration (OIQ and PEng).
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Commitment to conducting work safely.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and potentially internationally.
  • Ability to work independently, on-site, outside and in remote locations.
  • Ability to work long hours in the field, tolerating variable weather conditions.
  • Bilingual English/French is required for this position

Valuable Skills

  • Experience with specialized engineering design/analysis software typical for this role (e.g., Goldsim, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, WMS, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Experience with data science, coding (Python, R, Visual Basic), or AI (Claude Code) is an asset.
  • Construction QA/QC or general construction experience is an asset.
  • A graduate degree in a related field is considered an asset.

This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include periodic travel, either domestically or internationally.

This opportunity represents a newly created role within our organization.

SRK uses Artificial Intelligence to support certain aspects of the recruitment process, however all selection and hiring decisions are made exclusively by the relevant hiring team.

Benefits and Pay

The estimated base pay range for this position is $115,000 to $145,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.

In return for considering a future with us, we offer:

  • An attractive compensation package.
  • Diversity of projects and clients within a non-hierarchical consultancy environment.
  • The opportunity to purchase shares in the company; the SRK Group is an independent group owned by its employees.
