Original job description

Our client is a leader in luxury decorative plumbing, bath, hardware, and lighting, with showrooms serving high-end custom residential projects across the Lower Mainland, Whistler, Vancouver Island, and the Okanagan. Their team is trusted by the region’s top designers and builders for exclusive European brands, deep technical expertise (from rough-in to trim), and white-glove project execution -- all showcased in one of North America’s largest design showrooms.

They are hiring a Lighting Design Consultant to grow this high-potential segment of the business. This consultant will build a book of business with interior designers and architects across Greater Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Whistler, many already working with with the plumbing and hardware team (but not yet lighting). A monthly report of new plumbing invoices identifies designers who are mid-project, giving the consultant a warm lead list from day one. The role combines this outbound work with showroom consultations and lunch and learns.

What your role will entail:

  • Develop new business with interior designers and architects, using a monthly report of new plumbing invoices as a warm lead list.
  • Build relationships with roughly 700 designer accounts that have no ownership on the lighting side.
  • Work with Cantu’s 20-person plumbing sales team to bring lighting into active projects.
  • Advise clients on functional, feature, and decorative lighting from a selection of about 300 fixtures
  • Hold designer visits, lunch and learns, and client meetings across Greater Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Whistler.
  • Prepare quotes and specifications, and manage orders through to delivery.
  • Support showroom consultations alongside two established lighting consultants.
  • Maintain accurate CRM/quoting data and deliver reliable order/quote accuracy.
  • Location: In-office showroom in Vancouver, M/W/F 9am - 5pm, Tu/Th 8am team meetings. Occasional site/client visits.

The ideal candidate brings:

  • Sales or design experience in residential lighting, with working knowledge of functional, feature, and decorative fixtures.
  • Background in luxury finishes or technical design products (plumbing, tile/stone, cabinetry, premium hardware, or similar).
  • Proven consultative selling with designers/contractors; comfortable influencing spec decisions and navigating substitutions.
  • High detail orientation (complex quotes, finish schedules, rough-in/trim sequencing); strong follow-through.
  • Technical curiosity and readiness to learn during ramp (hundreds of SKUs/finishes; CSA nuances for European imports).
  • Relationship-first; willing to do tasteful outbound (education-focused) to win future specs.

What they offer:

  • Compensation: Guaranteed base salary during 2-3 year ramp ($70K - $85K), after which you move to a strong commissions-with-draw plan.
  • Earning potential: Fully ramped average/high performers typically $120K - $250K+ total compensation; top books exceed $2.0–$2.5M in annual sales.
  • Environment & perks: One of the largest luxury showrooms in North America; exclusive European brands; vendor product-knowledge training; premium industry events (awards, designer gatherings, client appreciation); highly collaborative sales, purchasing, warehouse, and PM support.

Interested candidates, please note: Our team checks for new applicants every day and while we would love to be able to engage with each of you personally, given the high volume of applicants we receive, we are only able to contact candidates who are best suited for this role.
