Original job description
Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Belleville, Ontario (on-site)
Pay Range: $85,000 - $100,000 CAD
Interviewing: ASAP
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, high-impact Manufacturing Engineer role at a well-established Tier 1 automotive manufacturer. You'll be embedded in a fast-moving production environment across molding, coating, and assembly, where your ideas translate directly into better processes, fewer defects, and measurable cost savings. If you're the kind of engineer who thrives on solving real problems on the floor and not just at a desk, this role was built for you.
You'll be part of the Current Production Program team, owning engineering changes from post-launch through the full product lifecycle. That means real ownership, real accountability, and the kind of variety that keeps every week different from the last.
What You'll Be Doing
Process and Equipment Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across molding, coating, and assembly, targeting 100% first pass yield and maximizing OEE
- Reduce equipment downtime, scrap, labor cost, and cycle time through hands-on problem solving and data-driven analysis
- Lead and support Kaizen events, 5S, and CAGYS initiatives
Program and Change Management
- Own post-launch engineering changes to equipment and tooling
- Manage PFMEAs, Control Plans, and open issues lists, actively reducing RPNs
- Execute customer requirements including engineering changes and quality initiatives from SOP through end of life
- Manage capital requests, timing charts, and project budgets end-to-end
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with operations to support their safety, quality, and cost goals
- Mentor and direct team members as the technical subject matter expert on your programs
- Engage directly with customers and suppliers on requirements and change implementation
What You Bring
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering (asset)
Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of PFMEA, APQP, PPAP, SPC, Process Flows, Control Plans, and GD&T
- Tooling experience: injection molding, coating, and/or assembly processes
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Root Cause Analysis tools (Six Sigma, Red X)
- Understanding of automotive customer-specific requirements and quality systems (IATF environment)
- Proficient with Excel, AutoCAD, PowerPoint, MS Project, and FMEA Pro8; experience with Trans4M and QSI is a plus
Who You Are
- A driven, organized self-starter who can juggle multiple projects without dropping the ball on urgent floor issues
- A logical problem solver who executes, not just analyzes
- Someone with a genuine desire to learn and grow, with the interpersonal skills to bring others along with you
- Comfortable moving between the office and the production floor, and occasionally across time zones (some travel, including international, may be required)
Must-Haves
- Experience in a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment preferred
- Hands-on PFMEA ownership with demonstrated RPN reduction
- Injection molding, coating, or assembly tooling knowledge
- Strong APQP/PPAP/Control Plan background
- Engineering Diploma or Degree (or equivalent experience)
Nice-to-Haves
- Previous experience in a Magna environment
- Six Sigma or Red X certification
- Trans4M / QSI systems experience
- IATF 16949 exposure
