Your Opportunity

Alongside these major corridor projects, this role is also deeply connected to the municipal engineering needs of small and growing northern communities - where reliable roads, drainage, water and sewer systems, site servicing, and resilient community infrastructure directly support daily life, access to essential services, housing growth, emergency response, and long-term economic sustainability.
As part of our North of 60 Engineering team, you will help shape infrastructure solutions in some of Canadaâs most complex and meaningful project environments, where engineering, environmental stewardship, Indigenous partnership, constructability, and logistics all come together. This role offers the chance to contribute to nationally significant corridor projects while building strong relationships with territorial governments, Indigenous organizations, industry partners, and multidisciplinary teams across Canada.
Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training to join our growing engineering practice in Yellowknife or Whitehorse.
Opportunity provides for a hybrid work environment. In office presence is expected based on project needs, client meetings, and team collaboration.
Your Key Responsibilities
- With guidance, perform civil engineering design using knowledge of relevant software programs primarily AutoCAD Civil3D including underground utilities (water/sewer conveyance using pipe networks), roadways (alignments using corridors), and site developments (using surface and grading commands).
- Perform significant field work/review services related to construction administration and surveying related activities (up to 90% field work during peak seasons), including the supervision of junior field staff when required.
- Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the completion of the project under the direction of a project coordinator or project manager.
- Performs calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software.
- Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity and size
- Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
- Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
- Performs a variety of tasks which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure design integrity, reliability, resource efficiently and cost effectiveness.
- Performs other duties as assigned by project managers or supervisor.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design.
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
- Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
- Experience and a willingness to undertake construction reviews is also required.
- Requires understanding and proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Basic understanding of topographic or construction layout surveying.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Possession of a valid driver license.
- Physical ability to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain with the ability to lift/carry heavy equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 1-2 years of Civil engineering experience preferred
- Registered as an EIT or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
