Your Role:
Stantec is seeking an intermediate Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Engineer or Designer to join our multidisciplinary Buildings team. The successful candidate will provide hands-on ICT design and project delivery support for healthcare, institutional, commercial, and educational projects while collaborating with architectural, electrical, mechanical, security, audiovisual, and technology professionals across Canada.
This position is well suited to a practical and resourceful individual who can develop coordinated ICT drawings and specifications, contribute to project delivery from concept through construction, and work effectively with both local and remote team members.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery Responsibilities
- Produce ICT drawings, specifications, reports, and design calculations.
- Coordinate ICT systems with architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, and security disciplines.
- Develop telecom-room layouts, pathways, cabling systems, equipment layouts, and device plans.
- Participate in site surveys, construction reviews, deficiency inspections, and commissioning activities.
- Support project delivery from concept design through construction.
Business Support Responsibilities
- Support proposals, scope development, and fee preparation.
- Participate in client meetings and business development activities appropriate to experience level.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Independent, resourceful, and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working with remote teams while coordinating closely with local electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural, and technology disciplines.
- Excellent technical writing skills, including the preparation of reports, studies, proposals, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Strong verbal communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to effectively engage owners, operators, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Experience designing telecommunications and network infrastructure, including telecom rooms, entrance facilities, server rooms, structured cabling systems, pathways, cable tray systems, patch panels, racks, cabinets, grounding, and equipment layouts.
- Experience designing and/or commissioning one or more ICT systems, including access control, video surveillance, nurse call, real-time location systems (RTLS), audiovisual systems, public address systems, intercom systems, Wi-Fi networks, VoIP systems, mass notification systems, and building automation system networks.
- Working knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, NAT, link aggregation, spanning tree protocols, wireless networking, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
- Experience producing coordinated ICT designs using Revit and AutoCAD within multidisciplinary BIM environments.
- Experience performing site investigations, existing-condition assessments, construction reviews, field inspections, deficiency reviews, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings, product submittals, requests for information (RFIs), and contractor change proposals.
- Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and guidelines, including ANSI/TIA, BICSI, IEEE, CSA, OBC, NBC, and healthcare-specific ICT requirements where applicable.
- Familiarity with industry-leading ICT manufacturers, technologies, and emerging trends within the Ontario and Canadian building sectors.
- Ability to support proposal development, scope definition, effort estimating, and fee preparation.
- Willingness to travel periodically for site surveys, client meetings, workshops, and construction support activities.
- Experience with healthcare ICT systems such as nurse call, RTLS, clinical communications, patient engagement, and security systems is considered an asset.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or a related field; or a Diploma in Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Technology, ICT, or an equivalent discipline with relevant industry experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in the design and delivery of ICT systems for buildings and infrastructure projects.
- P.Eng., EIT, CET, RCDD, CCNA, CISSP, or equivalent professional credentials are considered strong assets.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
