Your Opportunity
We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Technologist – Construction Services with a practical understanding of structural building systems and construction, particularly concrete construction. This opportunity is open to both engineering and engineering technology candidates. The role focuses on assisting with construction support, field review, contract administration, and the practical resolution of structural issues. Applying a professional seal is not a requirement.
Working closely with senior structural professionals and multidisciplinary project teams, you will review structural work in the field, help address construction issues, and support successful project delivery. This is a hybrid field and office role, with the balance varying by project. Most site work is within Calgary and surrounding areas; travel elsewhere in Alberta and overnight stays are expected only occasionally. When a personal vehicle is used for business-related site travel, mileage is reimbursed in accordance with Stantec policy.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Review structural construction in the field for general conformance with the contract documents, with particular emphasis on cast-in-place concrete, including reinforcement, formwork, embeds, placement, curing, deficiencies, and repairs.
- Support contract administration and project delivery by attending site meetings and coordinating with owners, contractors, architects, engineering disciplines, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist in developing practical structural solutions to site issues and prepare site instructions, corrective actions, and responses to requests for information.
- Prepare clear, timely field review reports and review shop drawings and other structural submittals.
- Support the structural design team with constructability input, design coordination, and focused calculations, sketches, specifications, or drawing revisions needed during tender and construction.
- Coordinate construction-support activities with project team members, other disciplines, and Stantec offices as required.
- Follow Stantec’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures and maintain organized project documentation.
- Assist Project Managers with work planning, budgets, schedules, and the development of practical tools and standards for construction services.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- A bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from a recognized university, or an applicable construction or structural-focused engineering technology diploma from a recognized technical institution.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer, Engineer-in-Training, Certified Engineering Technologist, or equivalent applicable designation in Alberta.
- 4+ years of post-graduation experience involving structural construction, field review, contract administration, or project delivery.
- Demonstrated site experience reviewing structural construction, including concrete reinforcement, formwork, embeds, placement, curing, deficiencies, and repairs.
- Practical knowledge of building structures, construction methods, contract documents, and the respective roles of contractors, consultants, and clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and adapt to changing project needs and technology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
- A valid Alberta driver’s license. A current driver’s abstract may be requested as a condition of site-related work.
Preferred Qualifications and Assets
- Experience with concrete repair, steel construction, masonry construction, or structural rehabilitation.
- Experience in the water and wastewater, commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, or community sectors.
- Experience with Revit or structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA, or RAM.
- Interest in contributing to construction-service tools, standards, specifications, and practice development.
Travel: Weekly travel 50-100% for site specific contract administration primarily within Calgary and surrounding areas. However, additional contract administration travel within Alberta may be expected. Not typically required outside of the province.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
