Original job description

We create connections that get people and goods moving - whether by car, bus, train, plane, or their own two feet. Working within the context of the communities we serve, we provide planning, engineering, and infrastructure management services that fit the needs of our clients and improve the overall transportation experience. Join our team and help us keep communities connected.

A career in transportation is more than bridges, roads, and rail. As we plan, design, and manage projects that move people and goods from Point A to Point B, we create connections that transform our communities. Every airport, road, bridge, port, or transit project is an opportunity to make communities safer, cleaner, and more resilient. Together, we’re making an impact around the world.

If you’re looking for a career that moves, join our team of professionals passionate about the future of transportation.

Your Opportunity

Our Canada East based Transportation Business Line has a need for a Jr. Project Controller in a full-time permanent capacity, based in one of our offices in southwestern Ontario (Markham, Mississauga, Hamilton, and Waterloo). As Project Controller you will be working closely with the team of Project Managers and Leadership in the Transportation Business Line to provide financial and change management support on scope, schedule, and cost throughout the life cycle of projects. Our projects are multi-discipline, engineering, water, landscape architectural, planning, etc. that can include some or all the following project phases: conceptual, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction phases. As a project controls professional at Stantec, you will utilize your expertise in financial planning, scheduling, cost controls, communications, and problem solving in a fast-paced, professional environment to assist the Transportation team with project delivery and program development.

Your Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) to establish initial project budgets, work breakdown structures (WBS), and baseline cost/schedule plans.
Regularly develop and update project forecasts, including Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), and cash flow projections.
Support the preparation of change orders and contract amendments, ensuring all scope changes are accurately reflected in the budget and schedule.
Oversee the setup of new projects within the internal financial system to ensure alignment with contractual structures.
Monitor the progress of projects to evaluate financial risks, identifying potential overruns or variances before they impact profitability.
Utilize Earned Value Management (EVM) and other metrics to track labor utilization, productivity, and overall project performance.
Act as a bridge between technical leads and PMs to monitor resource allocation, ensuring staffing levels align with the project budget and accounting constraints.
Manage the monthly invoicing process, including the review of Work in Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to ensure timely collections and revenue recognition.
Support the development and administration of sub-consultant agreements, ensuring their costs are monitored and reconciled against the prime contract.
