Original job description

The North of 60 Transportation team is a vibrant group, focused on delivering innovative solutions for today’s civic challenges throughout the Territories and Western Canada. Building on each other’s talents, we collaborate across all disciplines to execute projects of all sizes and complexities – from roadway, traffic, structural, environmental, water, power, digital technologies, and more - to make our communities safer, more resilient, and exciting places to live and work.

We encourage our team to push the limits in an innovative and energetic environment, focusing on developing our team’s skillsets while advancing individual careers. We routinely engage with experts throughout North America, making the most of today’s technology and being the first to create new ones. We have three offices north of 60 - Whitehorse, Yellowknife, and Iqaluit, the capital cities of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, respectively - serving as hubs for project delivery across the territories. Because our northern teams are lean and deeply connected to the communities they serve, people working north of 60 take on broader roles, gain hands on experience, and contribute across the full life cycle of projects.

Living in Northern Canada takes grit! This is the land of dramatic seasonal variations – in temperature, weather and sunlight. Grit is what we need to build the complex engineering, environment and architectural projects that serve our communities.

Up here work-life balance truly exists. Whether you’re interested in an adventure filled with fishing, skiing, hiking and snowmobiling, or looking to live in a beautiful, small urban center, Whitehorse, Yellowknife or Iqaluit could be the place for you. Build your career AND enjoy your life!

Join us in forging thriving communities in the Yukon and Northwest Territories and Nunavut!

Your Opportunity

Stantec's Yukon and Northwest Territories based teams are currently seeking a Project Manager to join our team of project managers, technical staff, and multi-discipline specialists to provide local northern expertise in transportation, municipal, civil and buildings engineering. You will lead a team of professionals in the planning, design and construction of municipal projects in our growing infrastructure sector. The projects will be in various phases from feasibility and conceptual planning, through design, construction, and occupancy.

Here are some links to provide you with an example of the work and the people you could be involved with:

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Whitehorse, Yukon

Iqaluit, Nunavut

SMKC - Dawson Recreation Centre

Kivalliq Inter-community Road Study

Your Key Responsibilities

Manage multiple infrastructure projects as a PM for infrastructure and transportation projects, providing day-to-day oversight while controlling scope, schedule, budget and stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Directing and providing hands-on management of planning and feasibility studies, pre-design and detailed design and contract administration assignments for public and private sector clients.
Lead and mentor junior staff and multidisciplinary teams to deliver transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
Lead project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, contract administration, change orders, invoicing and payment approvals.
Promote a strong safety culture while overseeing safety programs, quality reviews, plan reviews and inspections.
Lead business development initiatives, client relationship management, and proposal preparation including scope, budget and schedule development.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Project Management Professional Designation PMP is an asset.
Excellent communication and Leadership skills (verbal and written) as well as good relationship building skills with respect to your interactions with team members, clients, and contractors
Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines while work independently
A strong work ethic with the desire to excel, inspire and to achieve
Willingness to learn and a motivated team player
Working knowledge of relevant municipal infrastructure (water, sewer, storm systems), roadway and highway design guides is an asset.

Education and Experience

Ideally 10+ years of experience in Municipal or Transportation Engineering, Technical Advisory Related Work or Construction Management.
BaSc or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.
