Original job description

IT Specialist

Toronto, Ontario (in office Wednesdays)

About Starshot Ventures

At Starshot Ventures, we help the world's most innovative technology brands turn big ideas into real momentum.

With a global footprint, we design and deliver high-impact marketing programs, partner campaigns, and unforgettable events that help technology companies grow their ecosystems and drive real business results.

Think creative strategy meets data-driven marketing, all powered by a team that thrives on collaboration, curiosity, and a little bit of bold thinking.

About the Role

Starshot is hiring a full-time IT Specialist to join our Toronto-based team. Reporting to the IT Manager, you'll be the first-line IT support for our internal team and a key partner in keeping our systems secure, reliable, and easy to use. You'll work closely with the IT Manager and have real room to grow your skills and your impact as the team evolves.

This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people. You'll be the friendly, approachable face of IT for our colleagues, and you'll take pride in making technology feel simple.

Key Responsibilities

Provide responsive, friendly technical support to employees (in person and remotely) for hardware, software, accounts, and connectivity issues
Manage the helpdesk queue: log, prioritize, troubleshoot, and resolve tickets, escalating to the IT Manager when needed
Set up, configure, and maintain laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, and meeting-room technology
Onboard and offboard employees, including account setup, access management, and equipment provisioning
Support and administer our Microsoft-based environment and other core business platforms
Help keep devices and data secure through patching, access controls, and security best practices
Support SOC compliance efforts, including documentation, access reviews, evidence collection, and audit preparation
Maintain accurate IT asset inventories, system documentation, and knowledge-base articles
Identify recurring issues and suggest improvements that reduce manual work
Partner with the IT Manager on projects, upgrades, and vendor coordination

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience in an IT support, helpdesk, or IT specialist role
Experience supporting end users and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues
Familiarity with Microsoft business tools and environments
Experience supporting SOC compliance, including audits, controls, and evidence gathering
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to explain technical issues in plain language
Excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for customer service
Ability to work in the Toronto office on Wednesdays

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with identity and access management, endpoint management, and ticketing systems
Familiarity with cloud platforms
Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

What We're Looking For

A warm, friendly, and approachable teammate who puts people at ease, even when they're stressed about a tech problem
Someone who loves customer service and takes ownership of making every interaction a good one
A curious learner who wants to grow with the team and take on new challenges
Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable, with good judgment on security and data protection
Comfortable working closely with the IT Manager and collaborating across the internal team

Why Join Starshot

Be the go-to IT person for a collaborative, fast-moving team
Work directly with the IT Manager and build skills across support, security, and compliance
Opportunity to grow your career as our IT function and compliance program mature
A creative, tech-forward workplace where your work is visible and valued

We're based in Toronto, and this role requires in-office attendance on Wednesdays.

The base salary range for this position is $65,000 - 75,000 CAD, complemented by a comprehensive compensation package including benefits.

We value diversity and are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to providing a recruitment process and workplace that are accessible to all. If you require any accommodations or other needs, please contact us so we can make appropriate arrangements.
