ABOUT STATHERA

Stathera is a fabless semiconductor company re-architecting the traditional quartz-based timing industry. Our DualMode™ MEMS frequency technology is redefining what's possible in timing and synchronization, with the potential to transform the entire $9.4 billion electronics timing market. We have offices in Montreal, Toronto and Boston.

THE ROLE

Love building hardware with your hands? Stathera is hiring an Electronics Lab Technician to join our Characterization and Systems Integration team in Montreal.

You'll build and maintain the prototypes, test boards, and lab setups that turn our DualMode™ MEMS resonators into working oscillators, and keep our Montreal lab running smoothly. Along the way, you'll gain hands-on experience in MEMS packaging, electronics assembly, and precision timing characterization in a fast-moving, collaborative startup.

Reports to: VP of Systems Engineering

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Location: On site in Montreal

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build prototype and evaluation boards in-house: solder paste stencil printing, pick-and-place setup, and reflow profiling.
  • Hand solder and rework fine-pitch SMT and through-hole components (down to 0402 passives and QFN packages), with inspection under the microscope.
  • Wire bond MEMS and CMOS die into ceramic packages and chip-on-board assemblies, including die attach, and maintain process logs.
  • Support engineers with hardware bring-up and debug, from first power-up to measurements with oscilloscopes, multimeters, frequency counters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Build and maintain oscillator characterization setups: temperature chamber sweeps, phase noise, and long-term stability (aging).
  • Run automated tests and long-duration measurements, and share organized data with the engineering team.
  • As needed, operate the wafer prober for on-wafer MEMS testing (no prior prober experience required).
  • Keep lab equipment calibrated and maintained, from the wire bonder to the reflow oven.
  • Own procurement and inventory: quotes, orders, kitting, and dry storage of moisture-sensitive parts and bare die.
  • Write and follow work instructions so every build is documented and traceable.
  • Uphold ESD control and lab safety practices, and handle shipping between labs.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • DEC in Electronics Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in electronics assembly, a hardware lab, or semiconductor packaging.
  • Strong hand soldering and rework skills on fine-pitch SMT components under a microscope.
  • Comfortable with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators.
  • Able to read schematics, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
  • Working knowledge of spoken and written English to collaborate with our Toronto and Boston teams and international suppliers. French is an asset.

BONUS POINTS

  • Wire bonding (ball or wedge) and die attach experience. We'll train the right candidate.
  • Pick-and-place and reflow oven experience for low-volume SMT builds.
  • Familiarity with timing and RF measurements: frequency counters, phase noise analyzers, and temperature chambers.
  • KiCad, Altium, or another PCB design tool.
  • Python scripting for instrument control or data collection.
  • A detail-oriented mindset and clean, organized records.
  • Calm under pressure and able to juggle competing requests from several engineers.
  • A team player who takes ownership of the lab and proactively suggests improvements.
