Original job description

At Stellar, we aim to build a studio where people actually want to work. We face productions inevitable ups and downs as a supportive, truly connected team, prioritizing open communication over anyone working in isolation. We value honesty, creativity, and looking out for one another.

The Opportunity:

We are staffing up for a new Marvel Studios streaming series, and we are looking for exceptional Lighting and Compositing Artists across all experience levels to join the team. You will literally be illuminating the world and characters for this highly anticipated show!

This role combines many complementary skills, including a strong aesthetic eye, a deep understanding of depth of field, color theory, and material design. Whether you are a Junior eager to prove your skills, a Mid level artist ready to take on bigger challenges, or a Senior looking to light complex hero shots and share your expertise, we want to talk to you.

In this role, success looks like:

Lighting and Compositing Execution

  • Take ownership of the lighting, rendering, and compositing of your shots, ensuring they meet a consistently high cinematic standard appropriate to your level.
  • For Seniors: Confidently tackle the most complex hero shots and participate in Asset Look Development or Light Rig creation for use by the rest of the team.
  • Work seamlessly with multiple media elements to create a cohesive, beautiful final image.

Collaboration and Feedback

  • Complete fixes and changes requested by your Lead, Director, or the clients with a positive, solutions focused attitude.
  • Work closely with your Lead to maintain a crystal clear understanding of your deadlines and task assignments, always asking questions for added clarity when needed.
  • For Seniors and Mids: Problem solve collaboratively and help guide or mentor Junior artists when they run into technical hurdles.

The Requirements

Must Haves:

  • Experience:
    • Mid: 3 to 5 years of production experience handling moderately complex shots independently.
    • Senior: 5 plus years of production experience with a proven track record of delivering high end hero shots and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Core Skills: A strong understanding of lighting fundamentals, combined with a fantastic eye for color, contrast, composition, and camera dynamics.
  • Software: Excellent understanding and hands on production experience with Maya and Nuke.
  • Rendering: Solid experience with Arnold including a strong working knowledge of industry standard rendering concepts and processes.
  • Eligibility: You must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice to Haves:

  • The ability to quickly identify visual cues and follow direction seamlessly from key image references.
  • Experience with additional production software like Flow Production Tracking (formerly ShotGrid), and Deadline.
  • Experience in non-photorealistic rendering (NPR)

Why Join Stellar?

  • Flexible Environment:  We offer a flexible hybrid schedule that will vary with project and team requirements.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Culture: A collaborative, supportive environment where your artistic skills and ideas are truly valued.
  • Compensation: We believe in pay transparency. Based on your level of experience and interview assessment, the annual salary bands for this role are:
    • Mid: $75,000 to $85,000 CAD
    • Senior: $85,000 to $93,000 CAD
