Original job description
Our client, a global leader in the amusement park industry, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to strengthen safety performance across its operations and international construction projects. This role focuses primarily on construction safety (60%), complemented by workplace safety (30%) and administrative and quality support (10%). You will work closely with project teams, site leadership, and internal departments to promote a culture of safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and continuously improve safety programs and processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys balancing on-site engagement with program coordination, documentation, training, and risk management in a dynamic, global environment. If this sounds like you please apply directly or send your resume to info@stellar-recruitment.com.
Responsibilities
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement while maintaining and enhancing organizational safety policies, procedures, and processes.
- Coordinate safety practices across construction projects, including site orientations, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, safe work procedures, and site visits to verify compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards.
- Conduct safety audits, workplace inspections, and risk assessments across construction and manufacturing environments; review incident investigations, identify emerging risks, and ensure corrective actions are completed effectively.
- Oversee local workplace safety programs in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements, including hazard assessments, employee training, emergency preparedness, first aid requirements, and Joint Occupational Safety & Health (JOSH) Committee support.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, procedures, training records, and certification matrices while tracking safety performance metrics, monitoring trends, and ensuring employee and site personnel training requirements are met.
- Partner with project managers, site leadership, safety advisors, and internal teams across global locations to reinforce safety expectations, share lessons learned, and improve the effectiveness and consistency of safety practices. Travel within Canada and internationally as required, with occasional travel of up to 20%.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with 3–5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, construction safety, or industrial safety.
- Demonstrated experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments in both construction and manufacturing environments, with a strong understanding of site safety practices and hazard prevention.
- Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations, including WorkSafeBC requirements, and industry standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ASTM, EN, and OSHA.
- Experience maintaining safety management systems, documentation, procedures, and training records. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification, or equivalent, is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams, manage multiple priorities, work independently, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset, with the flexibility and willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as required, occasionally up to 20%.
