Original job description

**Please note this is an on-site role in North Vancouver. Applicants not within commuting distance to North Vancouver, BC will not be considered at this time**

Our client is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join their engineering team and support the design and production of custom hydraulic steering systems for the marine industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a new graduate or early-career engineer looking to build a strong foundation in mechanical design, hydraulics, and electro-hydraulic systems while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical fundamentals, attention to detail, clean drawing practices, and the curiosity and initiative to learn a highly specialized, safety-critical product in a hands-on manufacturing environment. If this sounds like you please apply directly or send your resume to info@stellar-recruitment.com.

Responsibilities

Support the design and development of custom mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-hydraulic steering systems, incorporating standard products and custom-engineered components to meet customer and project requirements.
Create and maintain 2D AutoCAD drawings and 3D SolidWorks models, applying sound engineering principles, dimensioning, tolerancing, and design-for-manufacturing practices to support quality and cost-effective production.
Perform and document mechanical engineering calculations related to material properties, stress, hydraulics, geometry, and system design, with guidance and review from senior engineers.
Work closely with the machine shop, production team, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve design and manufacturing issues and ensure components and systems can be efficiently fabricated, assembled, and tested.
Prepare technical documentation including system specifications, technical descriptions, operating instructions, machining and assembly instructions, classification documentation, and other project deliverables.
Support project requirements, timelines, service troubleshooting, and classification society submissions while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering quality, productivity, reliability, and cost reduction.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering; a degree from a Canadian CEAB-accredited university is preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
0–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, drafting, manufacturing, or engineering; co-op, internship, or hands-on shop experience is highly valued.
Proficiency with, or demonstrated ability to learn, 2D AutoCAD and 3D SolidWorks, with strong attention to drawing quality, detail, dimensioning, and tolerances.
Foundational understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-hydraulic systems, with an interest in developing deeper expertise in these areas.
Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, machinists, production personnel, suppliers, and service teams in both written and verbal English.
A practical, hands-on mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn; experience with machining, fabrication, assembly, marine equipment, or classification societies is an asset.

Pay: $60,000 – $70,000 annual salary

On-site in North Vancouver, 5 days per week.

Please note that the posted pay range for this role may vary based on seniority, qualifications, or prior experience. We are always looking for talented people to join our network, and if your desired compensation isn't reflected in this posting, please send your application for review regarding related opportunities.
