Original job description
Our client is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Designer to join their growing engineering team, contributing to the design and delivery of innovative mechanical systems with a focus on sustainable energy and building infrastructure. This is an opportunity to work on projects that support energy efficiency, decarbonization, and the development of centralized utility systems that provide heating, cooling, and hot water to multiple buildings and communities.
The ideal candidate will bring strong Revit design experience, particularly within mechanical systems, and the ability to coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the design process. Experience in district energy or sustainable energy projects would be an asset, candidates with backgrounds in HVAC, piping, ventilation, plumbing, or industrial piping design are ideal. This role is well suited to a collaborative designer who enjoys taking ownership of their work, contributing to multiple projects, and being part of a team delivering environmentally conscious engineering solutions. If this sounds like you, please apply directly or send your resume to info@stellar-recruitment.com.
Responsibilities
- Develop and produce detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and technical drawings using Revit and AutoCAD, with an emphasis on mechanical piping, HVAC, hydronic systems, and associated building infrastructure.
- Coordinate and collaborate on Revit models with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines, participating in BIM coordination, design reviews, and clash detection to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Prepare mechanical drawings and documentation, including piping layouts, plans, sections, schematics, P&IDs, details, and construction drawing packages.
- Support the design of centralized energy systems, mechanical plants, and distribution networks, including above-ground and buried piping infrastructure.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to review designs, resolve technical challenges, and ensure deliverables meet project requirements, applicable codes, and quality standards.
- Contribute to design improvements, drawing standards, and project workflows while managing multiple assignments and building strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Pipe Design/Drafting, or a related discipline; a degree in Mechanical Engineering is also considered.
- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design or drafting, ideally within sustainable energy, district energy, HVAC, building systems, or industrial piping environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Revit MEP, including the ability to develop, coordinate, and collaborate on mechanical designs and models rather than simply producing drawings independently.
- Experience with mechanical piping systems, including hydronic, process, above-ground and/or buried piping, ventilation, plumbing, or HVAC systems.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM coordination, and multidisciplinary design processes; experience with Navisworks, clash detection, or Autodesk Construction Cloud is an asset.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate an interest in sustainability, energy efficiency, and decarbonization.
Location: Toronto preferred; Vancouver, Ottawa, and Edmonton also considered (two days in office required)
Salary: $70,000–$90,000 annually.
