About Stellarex Energy

At Stellarex Energy, we are building foundational technology for the clean energy transition by harnessing stellarator fusion to provide safe, reliable, and carbon-free baseload power. Turning this ambitious physics and engineering goal into industrial reality requires an exceptional, mission-driven team. If you are ready to solve one of humanity's greatest technological challenges and build transformative hardware from the ground up, we invite you to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area.

Role Overview

Stellarex Energy is seeking an experienced, technically rigorous ICRH Engineer to drive the engineering design, hardware procurement, and system integration of the Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH) system for our prototype stellarator facility in the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting to the technical leadership of the project, you will serve as a specialist delivering high-power Radio Frequency (RF) systems - including RF generators/transmitters, transmission lines, automatic impedance matching networks, vacuum feedthroughs, Faraday shields, and in-vessel antenna arrays. You will bridge computational plasma physics requirements with mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineering baselines to achieve efficient ion heating.

Core Responsibilities

·       ICRH System Engineering & Design: Contribute to the comprehensive engineering design of the ICRH system, including high-power RF sources, coaxial transmission lines, matching networks, vacuum feedthroughs, and 3D in-vessel antenna assemblies customized for non-axisymmetric magnetic geometry.

·       RF Power & High-Voltage Delivery: Specify, procure, and integrate high-power, high-voltage supplies, solid-state or tetrode RF transmitters, directional couplers, and real-time arc protection systems operating across target megahertz frequency bands.

·       Thermal & Mechanical Integration: Ensure robust thermal management, cooling water circuits, active power dissipation, and mechanical support for in-vessel antennas and Faraday shields subjected to high heat flux, electromagnetic loads, and plasma-surface interactions.

·       Physics-Engineering Interface: Collaborate closely with plasma physicists and 3D CAD integration engineers to optimize RF power coupling efficiency, wave absorption profiles, antenna shaping, and port space envelope allocation.

·       Vendor Procurement & Factory Testing: Interface with specialized high-power RF component vendors, executing factory acceptance testing (FAT), RF high-power bench conditioning, on-site commissioning, and regulatory/safety compliance.

Required Qualifications & Experience

·       Education: Master’s Degree or Ph.D. (preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Applied Physics, Microwave Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

·       Experience: 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience designing, building, and operating high-power RF systems, high-voltage equipment, or ICRH/ECRH auxiliary heating systems for magnetic fusion devices or particle accelerators.

·       RF System Expertise: Deep technical proficiency in high-power RF generation, transmission line theory, impedance matching circuits, directional couplers, and vacuum feedthrough technology.

·       Hardware & CAD Integration: Proven track record in mechanical and thermal design of in-vessel components, high-heat-flux cooling loops, arc detection, and integration into 3D CAD environments.

·       Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage vendor technical deliverables, and interface seamlessly with plasma physics computational teams.

Compensation & Benefits

Stellarex offers an industry-leading competitive base salary paired with meaningful company equity options, providing direct ownership in our long-term enterprise growth. We also offer comprehensive health and dental coverage, professional development support, and relocation assistance to the Greater Toronto Area.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV and cover letter to careers@stellarex.energy. Stellarex Energy is an equal opportunity employer committed to workforce diversity.
