Company Description
Our client, seeking a Customs Compliance Consultant, is a highly respected international logistics organization with a strong Canadian presence and a long history of helping businesses move goods with accuracy, care, and confidence.
Global Reach, Local Accountability
This is an organization with the scale, systems, and service depth to support complex supply chains across multiple modes of transportation. At the same time, its Canadian operations remain close enough to the customer to make practical decisions, solve problems quickly, and build long-term relationships.
Logistics With Standards
The company places a strong emphasis on quality, compliance, safety, and dependable service. Customers rely on them not simply to move freight, but to protect timelines, manage complexity, and keep business moving when transportation challenges arise.
A Place to Contribute and Develop
For an experienced customs professional, this is an opportunity to join a stable, established organization where accurate advice and sound judgment matter. The role offers scope to strengthen clients’ compliance practices, resolve technical customs questions and continue developing your expertise.
Compensation
The salary range is $65,000 to $75,000*. The package also includes:
- An RRSP/DPSP program with company matching.
- Paid vacation and sick days.
- Ongoing professional development and opportunities for growth.
The Opportunity
An importer may need help defending a classification, preparing for a customs verification or determining whether duties and taxes can be recovered. This Customs Compliance Consultant role brings those questions together in a client-facing consulting position.
You will assess compliance risks, recommend practical action and help clients make informed decisions about their imports and exports. The work also has a commercial dimension: recognizing when an existing or prospective client would benefit from additional consulting services.
This permanent, full-time opportunity is based in Mississauga or Windsor, with four days on-site and one remote day per week.

Position Description
- Determining tariff classifications, including eligibility for end-use provisions, and maintaining client product databases.
- Advising clients and operations colleagues on customs requirements, including origin, valuation, marking, temporary imports and other government agency requirements.
- Reviewing free trade documentation and assessing whether goods qualify for preferential treatment.
- Conducting mock compliance audits to identify exposure and recommend corrective action.
- Supporting clients through customs authority verifications and subsequent audit requirements.
- Preparing amendments and recovery claims, including blanket refunds and duty drawbacks, and handling remission and customs ruling matters.
- Identifying potential recoveries involving customs duties, GST and excise taxes.
- Addressing requirements under special import measures and helping operations resolve regulatory questions affecting shipment release.
- Delivering technical training to clients and colleagues.
- Identifying consulting needs among existing and prospective clients and recommending relevant services.
A minimum of five years of experience in customs compliance, customs consulting or customs specialist roles is required.
Qualifications
As Customs Compliance Consultant, you will need strong technical knowledge of Canadian customs regulations, including customs authority requirements, other government agency rules and import/export permits. Your knowledge should also cover customs valuation, GST/HST application, temporary imports and special import measures.
Advanced Excel skills are required, including pivot tables and the ability to extract, manipulate and analyze information from client databases.
You should be able to research complex questions, assess compliance risks and explain your recommendations clearly in spoken and written English. The role also requires consultative judgment, attentive client service and the ability to manage competing assignments under firm deadlines.
Education
- A high school diploma and CCS designation are required.
- A CTCS designation or relevant professional licence would be an asset.
