Original job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a hunter’s role. We’re looking for a seasoned outside sales professional who lives in the market - in architecture studios, design firms, builder offices and on job sites - opening doors, earning the specification, and turning relationships into revenue.

You’ll own building the pipeline, growing a book of architects, designers, builders, developers and contractors, and positioning Stone Tile as the first call for luxury surfaces on every project that matters. You’ll have the backing of a 30+ year brand, a world-class product portfolio and a showroom team behind you. What you build in this territory is yours.

ABOUT STONE TILE

For more than 30 years, Stone Tile has been North America’s fashion house of natural and manufactured surfaces - sourcing the newest and highest-quality stone, tile, porcelain, slabs and wood for the architects, designers and discerning homeowners who want their spaces to transcend the ordinary. With more than 160 people and galleries in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary, we are building our reputation as the luxury design partner of choice for the A&D community.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Win new business

Prospect relentlessly across your territory - architects, interior designers, builders, developers, contractors and commercial end users - and convert new relationships into active, buying accounts.

Identify projects early, from concept through design development, and get Stone Tile specified before the job goes to tender.

Lead lunch-and-learns, product presentations and showroom visits that put our collections in front of the people who choose them.

Build a strong network in the local design and building community through industry associations, events and trade shows.

Grow and protect key accounts

Manage a portfolio of existing A&D and trade accounts, expanding share of wallet and turning one-off projects into long-term partnerships.

Be the trusted advisor clients call first - anticipating needs, bringing new product forward and staying close through every phase of a project.

Resolve issues quickly and professionally, coordinating with operations, logistics and management to protect the relationship.

Own the specification-to-close process

Guide clients through product selection, samples, specifications, quotes and negotiation, and follow every project through to order & delivery.

Track specified projects through to close so that specifications convert to orders - and aren’t lost to substitution.

Partner with A&D colleagues and the showroom team to close shared opportunities, as directed by the Business Development Manager.

Run your territory like a business

Plan and execute a disciplined weekly call cycle that balances new-business hunting with account growth.

Keep management informed with regular activity reports, weekly work plans and territory analyses covering pipeline, wins, losses and market trends.

Bring market intelligence back to the business - competitor activity, pricing, upcoming developments and product gaps.

Represent the brand

Act as a Stone Tile brand ambassador, with expert command of our collections, materials and design story.

Show up with the polish, credibility and taste our luxury clients expect, in every meeting and on every site.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• First 90 days: You know the product, the territory and the key players. You’ve met the top accounts, mapped the major firms and projects , and built a working pipeline.

• First 6 months: New accounts are placing orders. You have a consistent call cycle and a growing list of active specifications.

• First year: You’re hitting or beating your sales targets, you own a healthy pipeline of specified projects, and Stone Tile is a recognized name in Vancouver community.

WHAT YOU BRING

5+ years of outside, B2B or specification sales experience, with a proven record of opening new accounts and growing a territory.

Established relationships with architects, designers, builders or developers in Vancouver, BC - or the drive to build them fast.

A true hunter mentality: self-directed, competitive and comfortable working independently on the road.

Strong presentation, negotiation and closing skills, with the confidence to present to principals and project teams.

Excellent follow-through and organization - you manage multiple projects and long sales cycles without dropping a detail.

A collaborative approach; you share what you know and work well with colleagues across sales, showroom and operations.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

A degree or diploma in business, design or a related field, or equivalent experience.

A valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for regular travel throughout the territory.

NICE TO HAVE

Experience in tile, stone, flooring, surfaces or another building-products category.

Interior design or design/build construction experience or knowledge.

Familiarity with Prophet 21 (P21).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily field-based, with regular client visits, site visits and time in the Vancouver gallery; occasional evening or industry events.

Able to transport samples and deliveries to clients, lifting up to 25 lbs.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal background check.

WHY STONE TILE

Stone Tile was founded on a vision of uncompromising quality and design. We believe that to serve our clients with the industry’s best product and service, we need to surround ourselves with the best talent - and then invest in it.
