Original job description

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Strathcona Resources Ltd. is one of North America’s fastest growing pure play heavy oil producers with operations focused on thermal oil and enhanced oil recovery near the Cold Lake and Lloydminster regions of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Strathcona is committed to doing business the right way, guided by our core values: Integrity, Energy, and Intelligence. These values define who we are as a company, how we work together, and how we make decisions: We prioritize respect, accountability, and collaboration. That means everyone can shape and strengthen our culture and drive results in meaningful ways. Our people bring energy and curiosity to solve problems and deliver results. Be part of a team where performance, collaboration, and innovation come together to drive success.

We are actively seeking a Contract Abandonment Coordinator to join our Closure Team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Closure, the Abandonment Coordinator will support the planning and field execution of abandonment activities, ensure accurate well file data gathering, assist in program development, and provide on-site coordination with service providers and internal stakeholders. This is a hands-on operational role with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and disciplined project management.

Responsibilities:

Support the Abandonment superintendent with the development and maintenance of long-term strategy and programs sequencing, budgeting, and implementation of well abandonments.
Gather, review, and validate historical well file data, including drilling, completions, workovers, and operational records.
Help prepare detailed programs, cost estimates and downhole schematics fore review and approval by the Abandonment Superintendent prior to execution of field work.
Prepare documentation required for regulatory submissions and internal approvals.
Coordinate with service rigs, wireline, cementing, downhole tool providers, and other vendors, as directed by the Abandonment Superintendent.
Provide field coordination and oversight during abandonment operations.
Provide technical and administrative support to the Abandonment Superintendent and the Closure team.
Work with engineering, geology, regulatory and closure teams to keep scope, cost and schedule aligned.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent from an accredited University. Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Energy, and Petroleum/Oil & Gas disciplines and P/Eng. Preferred
5 years of energy industry experience, ideally in Well Servicing, Completions, Thermal Operations, workovers or abandonment activities.
Strong understanding of wellbore schematics, downhole configurations, and pressure control equipment.

Great things aren’t done by one person, they’re done by a team.

We believe meaningful results come from people with unwavering commitment to integrity, energy, and intelligence – how we show up matters just as much as what we deliver. We value our work, our communities, and our commitments – but most of all, we value the team of people who make what we do possible.

Apply to Strathcona

If you have what it takes to be a great Strathcona team member, we want to hear from you. We appreciate all interest in this opportunity but only those selected to advance through the process will be contacted.
