We are seeking a skilled Process Engineer to work within Strathcona’s Engineering Services group. The successful candidate will support the design, execution, optimization, and technical assurance of process systems for major capital and facilities projects within the Cold Lake Thermal and Saskatchewan Thermal assets. This role works closely with cross-functional teams to help deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Strathcona’s quality standards.
Essential Functions:
- Provide design input to EPCs during project development to ensure Strathcona project objectives are met.
- Utilize process simulation tools to model systems, optimize designs, and propose solutions for implementation.
- Work with operations teams to determine the maximum capacity of existing equipment and develop debottlenecking scopes that support plant expansions.
- Preparation and development of process design basis memorandums, P&IDs and PFDs.
- Review critical calculations and design deliverables such as PSV calculations and P&IDs.
- Participate in HAZOPs and model reviews.
Requirements:
- 5-9 years’ experience in an engineering or related role in the oil and gas industry.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA and APEGS as a professional engineer.
- Familiarity with SAGD, steam generation, water treatment, oil processing, and sulphur management processes.
- Knowledge of PI and Tableau data tools.
- Knowledge of HYSYS or Symmetry process modeling tools.
- Experience with facilities optimization, MOC projects, and evaluating maximum capacity of existing systems.
- Ability to take project objectives and create a process design basis to form scopes for EPC engineering design.
- Able to apply API RP 521 and evaluate PSV sizing and overpressure calculations.
- Ability to perform P&ID reviews to ensure that process requirements are incorporated early in the project design
- Ability to manipulate and process data from PI and Tableau.
Work Environment:
- Job requires periodic travel to the field (3-4 times per year). Field travel may increase or decrease depending on project activity.
