The Role

Our client, a well-established leader in mechanical contracting across Western Canada, is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their Construction team.

This position will play a critical role in overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of complex mechanical construction projects, including plumbing, HVAC, heating, ventilation, and fire protection systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from initial planning through completion, ensuring all work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with General Contractors, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal field teams, the Senior Project Manager will provide leadership across all aspects of project delivery, including design coordination, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, contract administration, and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, construction schedules, and budgets to ensure efficient allocation of labour, materials, equipment, and resources.
  • Oversee all phases of mechanical construction projects, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations, design specifications, timelines, and financial objectives.
  • Review architectural, engineering, mechanical, and shop drawings to identify potential issues, ensure constructability, and maintain compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
  • Manage subcontractors, trade contractors, vendors, and suppliers, including procurement of materials and equipment, performance monitoring, and coordination of deliverables.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and administer contracts, change orders, project revisions, and additional scopes of work while securing necessary permits and approvals.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and progress reports, proactively identifying risks, delays, and cost overruns and implementing corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with Field Supervisors and Operations teams to determine labour requirements, coordinate resources, and support efficient project execution.
  • Act as a key point of contact for General Contractors, consultants, clients, and other stakeholders, maintaining strong professional relationships and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Investigate and resolve construction-related challenges, including site conditions, quality concerns, scheduling conflicts, and unforeseen project delays.
  • Evaluate construction methodologies and sequencing to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, cost savings, and overall project performance.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure work meets project specifications and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-focused work environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee project closeout activities, ensuring all documentation, inspections, approvals, and contractual obligations are completed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7–10+ years of progressive construction project management experience, ideally within mechanical contracting or large-scale commercial and institutional construction.
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and fire protection.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex construction projects from preconstruction through substantial completion.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, cost forecasting, procurement, and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, building codes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate architectural, engineering, mechanical, and shop drawings.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, field personnel, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and construction site health and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and MS Project, with the ability to quickly learn new project management software.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects in a fast-paced construction environment.
