Original job description

Stubbe’s is a family-owned and operated company that has been in business for over 40 years. At Stubbe’s, our continued focus is to provide unique, cost-effective, and lasting building solutions. Stubbe's started as a small precast company servicing the agricultural market, evolving over the past 40 years to a diversified company that provides a wide range of concrete (related) products and services. Stubbe’s is known for its forward-thinking solutions, quality, and customer service and offers significant experience and expertise in providing optimal solutions for commercial, industrial, residential, and agricultural structures.

Reporting to the VP of the Cement Division, the Technical Sales Representative will develop and grow sales of Stubbe’s cement products throughout the Greater Toronto Area. This role requires an experienced technical sales professional who understands construction materials, can confidently discuss product performance and specifications, and has experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, and purchasing teams.

The successful candidate will identify opportunities early in the design and specification process, build relationships with key decision-makers, and support projects through tendering, product selection, negotiation, and supply. Experience supporting large-scale civil engineering, infrastructure, commercial, or industrial construction projects is essential.

THE DAY TO DAY

  • Develop and execute a territory sales plan for the GTA, identifying new business opportunities while growing established customer accounts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with architects, consulting engineers, civil contractors, general contractors, developers, and purchasing teams.

  • Work with architects and engineers during project planning and design to communicate product capabilities and support consideration of Stubbe’s products in project specifications.

  • Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and customer requirements to identify suitable applications and prepare accurate proposals.

  • Provide technical presentations, product training, and on-site support, explaining product performance, applications, limitations, and advantages.

  • Coordinate with internal technical and operations teams to respond to specification questions, product suitability requests, and proposed substitutions.

  • Track major construction and infrastructure projects from early planning through tender, award, and construction, maintaining contact with the people influencing product selection and purchasing.

  • Prepare quotations and proposals, negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved guidelines, and follow opportunities through to close.

  • Coordinate customer requirements with production, logistics, and other internal teams, including anticipated volumes, delivery schedules, and project changes.

  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, document customer activity, and provide reliable forecasts and market feedback to management.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • A minimum of five years of successful technical sales or business development experience in cement, admixtures, concrete, or closely related construction materials.

  • Demonstrated success managing a sales territory, developing new accounts, growing customer relationships, and achieving sales targets.

  • Direct experience working with architects and engineers on product specifications, technical submissions, product selection, or approval processes.

  • Experience selling to and supporting contractors involved in large-scale civil engineering, infrastructure, commercial, or industrial construction projects.

  • Strong working knowledge of cement, aggregates, and concrete applications, including how material properties and performance requirements affect product selection.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, project specifications, and tender documents and translate those requirements into appropriate product recommendations.

  • Understanding of construction procurement, competitive tendering, project timelines, and the roles of consultants, contractors, owners, and purchasing teams.

  • Established relationships within the GTA construction market, with the ability to identify and connect with key decision-makers.

  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Sound commercial judgment when preparing quotations, negotiating terms, and balancing customer requirements with profitability and operational capabilities.

  • Ability to manage a territory independently, prioritize opportunities, maintain accurate records, and provide dependable sales forecasts.

  • A diploma or degree in civil engineering technology, construction management, business, or a related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant industry experience and technical knowledge will also be considered.

  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly throughout the GTA for customer meetings, presentations, and site visits.
