Original job description

Studio Kimi is an interior design and build studio in Oakville. We work on residential, commercial and hospitality projects, all drawn and specified in-house, then built with our own trades. This November we move into our new Oakville studio, and we are growing the design team.

What you will do

  • Produce and maintain AutoCAD drawing packages to our standards, from concept through construction documents
  • Build SketchUp models and set up scenes for rendering
  • Write finish, fixture and millwork specifications, and keep schedules current as decisions are made
  • Source products and materials: options, pricing, lead times and samples
  • Attend client meetings and site visits with the Principal, and coordinate with trades and suppliers during construction
  • Lead projects and mentor junior designers as the team grows

What we are looking for

  • Three to five years in interior design or design-build, residential or commercial, with built work in your portfolio
  • Fluency in AutoCAD and SketchUp. Rendering experience is an asset; we will train you on our pipeline
  • Comfort writing specifications and keeping a drawing set organized
  • A working understanding of Ontario residential construction and how the Ontario Building Code shapes a drawing
  • Clear written English, because much of this job is telling a trade exactly what to build
  • A driver's licence and access to a vehicle for site visits and showrooms. Mileage and parking are reimbursed

How we work

Full-time, in person at our Oakville studio, with regular site, showroom and supplier visits. A focused team, direct feedback, and your name on what you draw. Interviews are held in person at the studio.

To apply

Send your resume and a portfolio (PDF, under 15 MB) to hello@studiokimi.com with "Intermediate Designer" in the subject line, or apply here on LinkedIn.

Studio Kimi is an equal-opportunity employer. We do not require Canadian experience. If you need an accommodation at any point in the hiring process, let us know and we will arrange it.
