The Opportunity

Pillars Network Transportation is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help drive the next stage of its growth. This is a true new-business role for someone who enjoys identifying opportunities, opening doors, building relationships and turning those relationships into long-term customers.

You won’t inherit a list of accounts to maintain. You’ll build your own pipeline and, when you win a customer, continue to own and grow that relationship as part of your book of business.

Pillars combines the speed and entrepreneurial environment of a growing freight brokerage with the capabilities of an established asset-based transportation partner. The company has also invested in technology and automation to reduce administrative work, giving its people more time to focus on customers and growth.

What You’ll Do

Develop new business across North America through outbound calling, email, networking, referrals and strategic customer meetings.
Build and own your book of business, taking relationships from initial prospecting through close and continuing to grow the customers you bring into Pillars.
Understand customer freight requirements, key lanes, service expectations and challenges, and identify where Pillars can provide a stronger transportation solution.
Work with operations to develop competitive rates and solutions that meet customer needs while delivering profitable business.
Lead sales conversations, negotiate pricing and service expectations, overcome objections and close new business.
Maintain strong customer relationships after the sale, identify additional opportunities and become a trusted transportation resource.
Manage an organized pipeline and disciplined prospecting and follow-up cadence using Salesforce.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can create business, not simply manage accounts that have already been handed to them.

Proven B2B sales experience with a track record of prospecting, developing and closing new business.
Freight brokerage, 3PL or transportation sales experience is strongly preferred.
A genuine hunter who is comfortable with outbound prospecting, rejection and consistent follow-up.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to establish credibility quickly.
Commercially minded, organized and self-directed, with the discipline to manage a consistent sales process.
Collaborative and able to work closely with operations to ensure the commitments made to customers are delivered.

An established network or transferable book of business is an asset, but what matters most is being able to demonstrate how you personally created, won and grew business.

The Business

Pillars primarily provides over-the-road full truckload freight brokerage services throughout Canada and between Canada and the United States. The company is particularly active on lanes connecting British Columbia and Alberta with Ontario and Quebec, along with cross-border freight between Western Canada and the western United States. Customers include businesses in industrial manufacturing, construction-related products, cable, furniture, appliances and other large or bulky manufactured goods.

Compensation, Benefits & Work Environment

The position offers a competitive base salary plus uncapped commission tied to gross profit generation. Pillars is prepared to structure the package around the experience, relationships and production potential of the right individual.

Medical and dental benefits and three weeks of paid vacation.
Company-provided computer, phone and required technology.
Hybrid schedule: Richmond office Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; remote Wednesday and Friday.
Typical hours are approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing greater overlap with customers in Ontario and Eastern Canada.
