Original job description

Summit Search Group is partnering with Recycle BC in the search for a Director, Post-Collection to lead the organization's provincial reverse supply chain operations.

This is an opportunity for an experienced supply chain, procurement or logistics leader to oversee the transportation, consolidation and processing of recyclable materials across British Columbia. The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for optimizing Recycle BC's post-collection network, managing service provider relationships and ensuring operational efficiency, accountability and compliance.

Reporting to the VP, Operations, the Director will play a key role in developing and executing strategies that support Recycle BC's operational, financial and environmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain Strategy & Operations

Lead the development and execution of Recycle BC's provincial post-collection supply chain strategy, ensuring reliable, efficient and cost-effective services.
Oversee the reverse supply chain network, including logistics, receiving facilities and material recovery facilities.
Ensure sufficient capacity across the network to transport, consolidate and process recyclable materials in accordance with program targets.
Design and implement strategies to improve the movement of materials across BC, considering transportation efficiency, container types, handling requirements, material volumes and greenhouse gas emissions.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, operational improvements and long-term supply chain optimization.
Collaborate with the Collection team to ensure effective integration between collection and post-collection operations.

Strategic Procurement & Vendor Management

Develop and implement procurement strategies that support operational objectives and deliver competitive service rates.
Negotiate and manage commercial agreements with transportation, consolidation and processing service providers.
Build and maintain relationships with existing vendors while identifying new partners and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure service providers comply with contractual obligations, Statements of Work and established operational standards.
Develop and implement vendor performance standards, scorecards and reporting requirements.
Address operational challenges, manage disputes and ensure service providers remain accountable for performance and compliance.

Systems, Reporting & Performance Management

Oversee the implementation and ongoing operation of Recycle BC's integrated material tracking system.
Ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of materials throughout the post-collection supply chain.
Work with internal teams and external partners to maintain data integrity and ensure consistent use of reporting systems.
Develop and monitor operational KPIs, performance scorecards and management tools.
Support supply chain auditing, material composition studies and operational reporting.
Analyze operational and financial data to identify inefficiencies, improve performance and support informed decision-making.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

Lead, develop and performance-manage the BC Post-Collection team, including logistics, receiving facilities and post-collection coordination.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Work closely with the VP, Operations and other operational leaders to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with Circular Materials, SK Recycles and other provincial programs to identify opportunities for shared best practices and operational efficiencies.
Build relationships with local governments, First Nations, service providers, industry associations and other stakeholders.
Represent Recycle BC on industry working groups and projects related to materials management and reverse supply chain operations.

Financial & Operational Planning

Develop and manage annual post-collection budgets in collaboration with the VP, Operations.
Monitor financial performance and ensure operational targets are achieved within approved budgets.
Participate in annual planning, fee setting, supply chain cost analyses and operational improvement initiatives.
Support the implementation of pilot projects and new supply chain initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
A professional designation from a recognized procurement or supply chain organization is an asset.
Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in strategic procurement, operational optimization, waste management, logistics contracting or related supply chain functions.
Strong expertise in strategic procurement, contract negotiation and supplier relationship management.
Experience managing complex operational networks, transportation providers or outsourced service partners.
Knowledge of waste management, materials management, logistics or related industrial operations.
Understanding of recyclable material processing and reverse supply chain operations.
Experience developing and implementing operational standards, performance metrics and reporting systems.
Strong analytical capabilities, financial acumen and ability to identify opportunities for operational improvement.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including developing teams and managing cross-functional relationships.
Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills.

Working Conditions

Flexible work arrangement, with attendance at Recycle BC offices as required.
Travel throughout British Columbia to meet with collection, transportation and processing partners.
Flexibility to accommodate extended working hours during annual budgeting, operational planning and quarterly reporting periods.
Valid driver's licence required.
