Original job description

An opportunity to own projects and make an impact.

Our client is a growing engineering firm delivering design-build solutions across Canada, supporting the oil and gas and mining sectors with facility upgrades, equipment modernization, and complex operational challenges.

Following the award of a major new project, they are expanding their Calgary team with an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer. This is a permanent opportunity to contribute to a significant project while supporting a diverse portfolio of assignments and long-term business growth.

This is primarily an in-office position, with field visits and travel to industrial sites as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to brownfield and retrofit projects from engineering design through construction and commissioning.
  • Develop and review mechanical and piping packages, including specifications, datasheets, material requisitions, equipment sizing, and technical calculations.
  • Perform pump calculations, pipeline sizing, pipe wall thickness calculations, and stress analysis; investigate mechanical and piping issues to improve reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct technical reviews of RFQs and vendor submissions using Bluebeam to verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Support field assessments, equipment upgrades, and facility modifications while coordinating with clients, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience in oil and gas, mining, or a related heavy industrial environment, with brownfield, retrofit, maintenance, or field engineering experience.
  • P.Eng. licensed in Canada, with Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan registration capabilities preferred, or willingness to obtain additional provincial registrations.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment packages, piping systems, pumps, compressors, and industrial mechanical design.
  • Experience with pipeline sizing, gas and liquid systems, and engineering tools such as Caesar II, AutoPIPE, PipeFlo, or similar software is an asset.
  • HVAC/hydronic design and process or instrumentation knowledge are additional assets.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple engineering packages, take ownership, and demonstrate initiative.

What’s Offered

Remuneration will consist of a base salary between $100-150K commensurate upon experience, appropriate expenses, and comprehensive benefit program. You will receive exposure to major industrial projects, diverse technical challenges and the full project lifestyle with the support of experienced senior engineers.

If you're looking for a hands-on engineering role with meaningful project involvement, technical variety, and room to grow, we welcome your application.
