Original job description

Regional Sales Manager, Canada & Northern USA

We are partnering with an innovative Canadian cleantech manufacturer in the search for a Regional Sales Manager to lead sales growth across Canada and the Northern United States.

Our client designs and manufactures advanced solar-powered outdoor lighting solutions for public spaces, including pathways, parks, campuses, parking lots, and commercial developments. Their proprietary technology eliminates the need for trenching and traditional electrical infrastructure, helping customers reduce installation costs, improve project efficiency, and create more sustainable communities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically knowledgeable, commercially driven sales professional with a background in lighting, electrical products, or related technologies. The ideal candidate brings strong industry relationships, a consultative sales approach, and the confidence to engage with engineers, municipalities, distributors, and other commercial stakeholders.

About the Role

Reporting to the VP, Sales & Marketing, the Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for developing new business, growing existing accounts, and expanding market presence across Canada and the Northern United States.

This is an individual contributor position offering considerable autonomy and ownership of a substantial geographic territory. You will work directly with end users, engineers, contractors, municipalities, developers, distributors, and manufacturers' representatives to identify opportunities and deliver innovative solar lighting solutions.

We are looking for a confident, engaging sales professional who combines technical credibility with strong relationship-building and presentation skills. You should be equally comfortable discussing lighting specifications with engineers, presenting solutions to customers, and developing strategic partnerships to grow your territory.

Territory: All of Canada, plus Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Location: British Columbia, ideally Victoria or Greater Vancouver, with regular travel throughout the territory.

What You'll Do

  • Own and grow sales across Canada and the Northern United States, achieving established revenue targets.
  • Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities while expanding existing customer relationships.
  • Build strategic partnerships with lighting distributors, electrical wholesalers, manufacturers' representatives, contractors, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Develop relationships with municipalities, government entities, engineers, architects, developers, and commercial end users.
  • Lead technical product presentations, demonstrations, and customer meetings, communicating the features and benefits of solar-powered lighting solutions.
  • Work with customers and project stakeholders to understand technical specifications, lighting requirements, and project objectives.
  • Support specification-driven sales opportunities, RFQs, quotations, and public sector procurement processes.
  • Develop and execute strategic territory plans to expand market penetration and build a healthy sales pipeline.
  • Collaborate with internal sales, engineering, and technical teams to deliver solutions aligned with customer needs.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, opportunity tracking, and customer records using Salesforce CRM.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings.
  • Travel regularly throughout the territory to develop relationships, support projects, and generate new business.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of successful B2B sales experience, ideally within commercial lighting, architectural lighting, LED technology, solar lighting, or related electrical products.
  • Strong technical understanding of lighting products, applications, and specifications, including familiarity with lumens, lighting performance, and lighting systems.
  • Experience selling through distributors, manufacturers' representatives, electrical wholesalers, or other channel partners.
  • Proven ability to develop new business, manage complex sales cycles, and grow established territories.
  • Experience engaging with engineers, contractors, municipalities, government entities, or commercial project stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical solutions to diverse audiences.
  • A proactive, outgoing, and relationship-driven approach to business development.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently manage a large geographic territory.
  • Experience with CRM platforms, preferably Salesforce.
  • Valid driver's licence and passport, with the ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada and the United States.

Nice to Have

  • Existing relationships within the Canadian commercial lighting or electrical distribution industry.
  • Experience with outdoor lighting, street lighting, architectural lighting, or solar-powered infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with specification selling and working alongside consulting engineers or lighting designers.
  • Experience with public sector procurement, municipal infrastructure projects, and government purchasing processes.
  • Experience developing and managing manufacturers' representative networks.
  • Knowledge of lighting controls, energy efficiency, and sustainable lighting technologies.

Why Apply?

  • Established territory: Opportunity to manage and grow a significant sales territory across Canada and the Northern United States.
  • Innovative products: Represent advanced solar-powered lighting technology that offers practical, sustainable alternatives to traditional lighting infrastructure.
  • Autonomy and ownership: Take responsibility for your territory, develop strategic relationships, and directly influence sales growth.
  • Comprehensive benefits: Extended health and dental coverage, Health Spending Account, three weeks of vacation, and company-wide holiday closure.
  • Travel support: Business expense account and vehicle mileage allowance.
  • Collaborative environment: Join a growing Canadian technology manufacturer with a strong commitment to innovation, product quality, and customer success.

If you are a technically minded sales professional with a passion for lighting technology, a strong network of industry relationships, and the drive to grow a substantial territory, we would welcome the opportunity to connect.
