Summit Search Group has been retained by MLS Management to recruit a Restaurant & Hospitality General Manager for Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub and the Clarion Pointe Hotel in St. Vital, Winnipeg. MLS Management is a locally owned, family-run hospitality group operating a portfolio of branded hotels and related businesses across Winnipeg and beyond, including multiple Choice Hotels and Marriott-branded properties. The group has built a strong reputation through years of hands-on, owner-operated management and a commitment to both the guest experience and the people who deliver it.
Food and beverage is at the heart of this opportunity. Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub seats over 300 guests, including a VLT lounge, and is one of the busiest sports-pub operations in the local market. Operating alongside the boutique Clarion Pointe Hotel and Cold Beer Market under one roof, this is a high-volume, multi-department operation with the complexity and performance expectations of a much larger enterprise.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to ownership, the Restaurant & Hospitality General Manager is the senior operational leader of the entire property, with full accountability for Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub, Cold Beer Market, the hotel, and a commercial tenant portfolio.
With a strong emphasis on food and beverage performance, the GM leads department managers across bar operations, the beer store, front desk, and accounting, providing the oversight, coaching, and accountability that keep a busy, high-revenue property running profitably and to standard.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced restaurant, pub, or food and beverage leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to oversee a broader hospitality operation. Hotel management experience is an asset, but the core requirement is a strong track record of leading high-volume food and beverage operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day performance of Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub, including its 300+ seats and VLT lounge, while overseeing Cold Beer Market, the hotel, and commercial tenant portfolio.
- Lead, coach, and develop department managers across bar operations, the beer store, front desk, and accounting, setting clear expectations and building a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Own the financial performance of the property, including budget development, revenue forecasting, labour and operating cost controls, and regular reporting to ownership, with particular attention to food and beverage profitability.
- Maintain high standards of food, beverage, and guest experience by monitoring service, product quality, and operating standards across the pub, hotel, and beer store, and driving ongoing improvements.
- Provide HR leadership across the property, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary processes, ensuring the team is well-supported and set up to succeed.
- Uphold health, safety, sanitation, and licensing standards across the operation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and a safe, secure environment for guests, staff, and commercial tenants.
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of progressive management experience in restaurant, pub, or food and beverage operations, ideally within a high-volume environment.
- Experience as a Restaurant General Manager, Pub General Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, or in a comparable hospitality leadership role.
- Experience within a corporate or branded restaurant group, with an understanding of operating policies, procedures, and reporting structures. Full-service hotel experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasting revenue, controlling labour and operating costs, and driving profitability.
- A hands-on leadership style, comfort in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to provide the flexibility and operational presence a busy hospitality business requires.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, an excellent customer service orientation, and the ability to build lasting relationships with guests, staff, and ownership.
- Familiarity with the Winnipeg hospitality market and Manitoba’s commission-based beer store model is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Restaurant & Hospitality Management is an asset but is not required.
