The Senior Manager, Institutional Sales Enablement owns the strategy, standards, governance, tooling, playbooks, workflows, and adoption model that enable consistent execution by the Institutional Sales team. This role is accountable for designing, maintaining, and continuously improving the institutional sales enablement operating model, including toolkit governance, workflow standards, platform adoption, sales activation frameworks, reporting definitions, process documentation, and the process optimization roadmap.
Reporting to the Director, Institutional Sales Enablement, this role acts as a key connector across Institutional Sales, Marketing, Product, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Innovation to improve sales effectiveness, strengthen client and prospect engagement, and enhance process consistency. The role governs sales activation frameworks, partners with Marketing on institutional campaigns and core collateral, leverages technology to improve sales workflows, and equips the business to support plan sponsors, group advisors, consultants, and other institutional investment audiences more consistently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Enablement Strategy, Standards & Operating Model
- Develop and maintain the institutional sales enablement strategy, operating model, standards, and governance routines aligned with institutional business priorities, sales priorities, and client engagement goals
- Design scalable playbooks, templates, workflows, scripts, onboarding resources, and adoption routines that improve consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness across Institutional Business Development and Client Relationship activities
- Own the sales activation framework, calendar, campaign enablement approach, and feedback loops with Marketing and Product for institutional products, market updates, campaigns, and strategic initiatives
- Measure enablement effectiveness, adoption, data quality, activity trends, and process consistency to identify gaps and priorities for continuous improvement
Collateral Governance, Toolkit & Sales Activation
- Partner with Marketing to develop and govern core institutional collateral, campaign materials, market updates, messaging architecture, toolkit standards, and version control
- Provide Institutional Sales feedback to Marketing and Product to ensure materials are accurate, relevant, timely, and aligned with client, consultant, advisor, and plan sponsor needs
- Own the sales enablement toolkit, including onboarding materials, training resources, playbooks, scripts, pitch support, and standard collateral
- Standardize content governance routines and distribution processes for institutional sales materials, product updates, and client communications to improve operational discipline, consistency, and version control
Platform Governance, Workflow Design & Process Optimization
- Own the workflow management operating model, intake rules, prioritization criteria, workflow standards, and reporting routines for enablement-related activity
- Govern CRM standards, required fields, reporting definitions, dashboard logic, adoption routines, and data-quality expectations across the institutional sales team
- Own RFP response platform governance, content library standards, workflow design, SME engagement model, and continuous improvement roadmap
- Identify, test, govern, and scale responsible AI-enabled solutions that enhance workflows, content development, reporting, and client-facing execution
Data Standards, Reporting Definitions & Cross-Functional Governance
- Establish and maintain institutional data standards, reporting definitions, quality expectations, and governance routines for business development, consultant relations, and client reporting needs
- Develop and maintain recurring process documentation, business routines, and enablement reporting standards that support consistent execution
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Portfolio Management, Product, Marketing, Operations, and Innovation to ensure enablement activities meet regulatory, brand, governance, and operational requirements
- Act as a cross-functional connector to align priorities, clarify decision rights, and improve accountability across institutional sales enablement activities
This role is accountable for designing, governing, enabling, and measuring the institutional sales enablement operating model. Day-to-day request fulfilment, client/prospect customization, presentation assembly, live RFP coordination, report production, and service delivery are owned by Institutional Sales Support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, or a related field
- 5–7+ years of experience in sales enablement, institutional sales, marketing, business operations, platform governance, or related roles within financial services, asset management, or the institutional market
- Strong understanding of institutional investment products, Canadian pension and retirement markets, and the needs of plan sponsors, consultants, group advisors, and institutional clients
- Proficiency with sales enablement, CRM, workflow, RFP, and collaboration platforms, with experience supporting platform adoption, governance routines, reporting standards, and process improvement
- Practical understanding of responsible AI applications that can improve sales workflows, content development, reporting, process consistency, and client engagement
- Excellent project management, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners, manage competing priorities, clarify decision rights, and drive adoption, governance, and process consistency in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
- Strong commercial orientation and client focus, with demonstrated ability to build credibility with internal partners and understand the needs of institutional clients, consultants, group advisors, and plan sponsors
Assets
- Experience with institutional investment databases, sales enablement platforms, CRM systems, workflow tools, RFP platforms, or similar institutional data and technology environments
- Knowledge of Canadian pension industry fundamentals, retirement plan governance, consultant relations, and institutional investor decision-making processes
- Certified Investment Manager designation, CFA designation or enrollment, or equivalent investment industry credential
- Project management certification or demonstrated experience designing scalable workflows, governance routines, and cross-functional operating practices
- Experience working in a matrixed, shared-services, or cross-functional enablement model with accountability for standards, adoption, governance, or process consistency

- Institutional sales teams consistently use accurate, current, and governed enablement materials, playbooks, templates, and toolkits
- RFP, proposal, and questionnaire workflows operate against clear platform governance, content standards, SME engagement routines, and continuous improvement practices
- CRM data standards, dashboard definitions, reporting routines, and adoption practices improve data quality, reporting discipline, and business visibility
- Sales activation frameworks, campaign enablement plans, and core collateral governance are better coordinated across Marketing, Product, and Institutional Sales
- Cross-functional enablement initiatives have clearer decision rights, stronger governance routines, improved adoption, and more consistent execution across teams

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
