The Senior Operations Manager (internally referred to as Area Operations Manager) will lead a team of District Managers to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable execution of propane delivery and service across Districts, including ancillary business lines. This senior operations leadership role is central to Superior’s operational excellence and is accountable for leading a management team to drive frontline execution aligned with enterprise-wide strategies.
What you'll do:
Operational & Strategic Leadership
- Lead a management team to execute delivery and service operations safely and efficiently across assigned Districts.
- Align with peers and leadership on the execution of strategic initiatives as directed by the Operations Leader.
- Lead the management team in driving frontline execution while partnering with cross-functional teams on strategic planning, routing, scheduling, and workforce planning to cost effectively meet customer and organizational demands.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop frontline managers, ensuring productivity, compliance, and safety.
- Develop and implement processes and accountability to support management team in providing effective operational input to centralized workforce planning while implementing and enforcing efficiency programs (e.g., overtime control, idle-time, fuel cost, route adherence).
- Foster a high-performance culture within the management team and front-line operations, while building a robust succession pipeline.
Delivery & Service Execution
- Mentor and lead the management team to ensure adherence to delivery protocols and service standards.
- Foster a culture of cross-functional collaboration within the management team to ensure route and schedule compliance, support customer retention, and manage seasonal labour capacity.
- Collaborate with Commercial teams and hold the management team accountable for addressing customer feedback and resolving operational issues.
Operational Efficiency & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Accountable for the management of propane and parts inventory through direct reports, ensuring field-level compliance and variances are reported and addressed.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Logistics, Network/Fleet/Service, HSE and other Corporate Functions (i.e. Sales/Marketing, HR, IT, Finance, etc.) to support the management team in addressing process issues and improve efficiency.
- Monitor and enforce KPIs, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and mentoring the management team to define action plans and drive results.
Safety & Compliance Oversight
- Develop a culture of safety, accountability and regulatory compliance through the management team.
- Maintain team accountability to applicable transportation regulations and enterprise health and safety standards, while reinforcing proactive safety leadership and risk mitigation.
- Engage in leadership level related duties as assigned.
Leadership Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Operations Management, Business Administration/Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant leadership experience will be considered.
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience leading managers within a matrixed organization; 10+ years preferred.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and achieve results without direct authority.
- Proficient in leading front-line managers and fostering a culture of accountability, execution, safety compliance and operational excellence.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly throughout Southwest Ontario.
Salary: $120,000 - $130,000 annually (based on skills, experience, qualifications, and geography).
