Original job description
We’re looking for a Plant Manager to lead day-to-day operations in a fast-paced, multi-shift converting environment.
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing operations in a multi-
shift converting environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on execution, throughput, schedule discipline,
safety, people development, and operational stability. The successful candidate will spend
substantial time on the production floor working directly with supervisors, adjusters,
operators, quality, maintenance, and scheduling teams to drive performance and solve
problems.
This role is not suited to a “desk manager.” We are looking for a practical, hands-on
manufacturing leader who is comfortable in a fast-moving production environment and
capable of building accountability and technical capability across the plant.
What you’ll lead:
- Operational Leadership: Oversee daily manufacturing operations across multiple shifts, ensuring production targets, schedules, throughput, and on-time delivery objectives are met.
- Performance Management: Monitor key operational KPIs, including production output, labour efficiency, downtime, spoilage, schedule attainment, and absenteeism, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with company policies and legislation, and lead safety investigations and corrective actions.
- Continuous Improvement: Improve machine uptime, changeover efficiency, production stability, and throughput through process standardization, Lean practices, and effective production reporting.
- People Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, lead hands, adjusters, and operators while promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Workforce Management: Support recruitment, onboarding, technical training, succession planning, and consistent management of attendance, performance, and disciplinary matters.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Scheduling, Sales, Customer Service, Maintenance, HR, and Finance to align production priorities, manage backlogs, and balance customer needs with operational capacity.
- Production Floor Management: Maintain a strong presence across departments and shifts, address production issues promptly, and ensure consistent execution of operational priorities.
We’re looking for someone who:
- 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience in a fast-paced production environment, preferably in printing, packaging, paper, converting, or related industries.
- Proven experience leading hourly production teams across multiple shifts and managing production flow, scheduling, staffing, and throughput.
- Strong understanding of operational KPIs, performance management, and practical problem-solving.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives is an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and decision-making skills, with a hands-on approach to floor management.
- Demonstrated ability to drive accountability, operational stability, and team performance in a fast-paced environment.
- Technically curious, with a willingness to learn equipment and processes and build credibility with employees and supervisors.
- Flexible schedule and willingness to support off-shift operations as required.
If you’re a hands-on manufacturing leader who gets things done, develops people, and drives operational excellence, we’d love to hear from you.
NOTE: This job description in no ways states or implies that these are the only responsibilities of this position. The employee will be required to accept additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Manager.
