Position Description

The Infant Hearing Program (IHP) at Surrey Place is seeking a Communicative Disorders Assistant who will report to the Manager, IHP. The Communicative Disorders Assistant, IHP provides Universal Newborn Hearing Screening, Audiology Services, Family Support Services, and Communication Development Services. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, under the daily oversight of a Training and Quality Assurance Supervisor when supporting infant hearing screening.

Main Responsibilities

Works closely with hospital staff in coordinating and implementing hospital based and community hearing screening and infection control protocols.
Conducts newborn hearing screening using Automated Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (ADPOAE) and Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology primarily with newborns 0-2 months of age.
Maintains hearing screening performance standards set by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
Uses online system to schedule follow up appointments, complete accurate point-of-care charting, data entry and tracking forms.
Participates in IHP quality assurance protocols and evaluation.

Qualifications

Communicative Disorders Assistant post-graduate diploma or other relevant courses.
Six months related experience and have a thorough understanding of physiological and functional speech/language and hearing disorders, programming skills and intervention techniques to evoke and sustain communication behaviours.
Experience working with infants and parents, conducting infant hearing screening (ADPOAE and AABR).
Ability to travel to various locations.
Ability to do moderate lifting of infant hearing screening equipment.
A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
Proficient with Microsoft Office 365.
Fluency in French is considered an asset.
