Job Overview
The Electrical Foreman performs hands-on electrical installation and construction work on commercial and industrial retrofit and construction projects. The role is responsible for day-to-day field execution, workmanship, safety, and coordination within SPG’s Engineering & Construction team.
A significant component of the role is working on the tools, particularly while the electrical team is being established. The Electrical Foreman works independently when required and leads a small electrical crew. Crew leadership responsibilities may expand as project workload and team size increase.
The Electrical Foreman coordinates field work with Project Managers, Engineers, and other trades; communicates progress, risks, and issues; and ensures work is completed in accordance with project scope, specifications, and schedules.
Responsibilities
Site Execution & Supervision
- Actively work on the tools to complete electrical installation and construction work in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Lead and work alongside a small electrical crew as the team grows, ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate daily site activities, other trades, and subcontractors while completing assigned electrical field work.
Project Coordination & Communication
- Act as the primary on-site point of contact between field teams, project managers, and engineers.
- Communicate progress, risks, and issues to project leadership in a timely manner.
- Support coordination between trades to ensure alignment and minimize delays.
Quality Control & Workmanship
- Ensure all work meets project specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
- Identify deficiencies and ensure timely resolution.
- Support inspections and quality checks throughout project execution.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Promote a strong safety culture on-site.
- Conduct site safety checks and enforce safe work practices.
Scheduling & Productivity
- Support project schedules by coordinating daily work activities and resources.
- Monitor productivity and ensure work is progressing according to timelines.
- Identify and escalate risks that may impact delivery.
Construction Support & Problem Solving
- Review drawings and specifications to support execution.
- Troubleshoot electrical and on-site construction issues, coordinating solutions with engineers and project managers as needed.
- Support commissioning, deficiency resolution, and project closeout activities.
Required Qualifications
- Journeyperson Electrician designation required.
- Experience as an Electrical Foreman, Lead Electrician, or Site Supervisor in construction or retrofit environments.
- Strong understanding of electrical installation, construction sequencing, and site coordination in commercial and industrial environments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to lead a small electrical crew, coordinate other trades, and work independently when required.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Alberta Master Electrician designation.
- Aerial Work Platform certification.
- Fall Protection certification.
- Confined Space certification.
- Other applicable Alberta safety training and certifications.
- Experience working on retrofit or building upgrade projects.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems and their integration with electrical work.
- Experience working in design-build environments.
- Leadership experience managing crews or subcontractors.
Working Environment
- Hands-on electrical field work in commercial and industrial retrofit and construction environments.
- Independent work and work alongside a small electrical crew, with crew leadership responsibilities expanding as workload and team size increase.
- Based in Edmonton and surrounding area, with travel to project sites as required.
- Hours are scheduled on an as-needed basis according to project workload, with the goal of growing the role toward full-time hours as SPG’s electrical construction workload increases.
- Work Location: In person
