Original job description

Exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting leader to oversee financial reporting and accounting operations for a dynamic, fast-growing, and multi-national public company. This hands-on leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a team (4-5 direct reports), strengthen financial controls, and help scale the finance function while partnering with senior leadership on key business decisions.

Who – the Company:

Our client is an entrepreneurial Canadian company with a successful history and an even brighter future. The company is definitely not a start-up (it was founded many years ago, and has very seasoned leadership at the helm), but still has the buzz and excitement that comes with working for a relatively young organization. The sector is manufacturing & retail, and the company sells their products across Canada and the US. The culture is team-oriented, progressive, and fast-paced, and employees are encouraged to take ownership, to improve processes, and to grow their careers alongside the business.

What – the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will lead the accounting team and oversee monthly/quarterly closes and year-end, multi-entity consolidations, financial reporting (IFRS), and internal controls across Canadian and US operations. The Controller will also manage day-to-day audit coordination, support public company reporting and tax compliance, oversee key accounting policies and processes, and partner with senior leadership on financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and business performance. A key focus will be improving systems and controls, and building scalable accounting processes to support continued growth. The Controller will lead, development, coach, and mentor a small accounting team of 4 to 5 Accountants (with various degrees of experience).

SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.

Who – the Candidate:

CPA designation.
At least 9 years and preferably 10 to 15 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a similar accounting leadership function.
Work experience in an inventory-based business (retail and/or manufacturing and/or distribution), including hands-on skills in inventory accounting, weighted average costing, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reconciliations.
Working knowledge of IFRS is required
Public company experience is required (ideally TSX-listed).
Experience supporting multi-entity and multi-currency accounting and consolidations (ideally Canada and US)
Training in a national or multi-national public practice firm is highly preferred, not required
Excellent leadership abilities, with experience formally managing at least 2 direct reports (Accountants, Senior Accountants, etc.)
Systems savvy, with the ability and eagerness to optimize, integrate, and leverage financial systems to make accounting processes more efficient and accurate

How Much:

The company will also provide their new Controller with a solid overall compensation package, including a discretionary and performance-based bonus, a generous employee share purchase program, professional development support for CPA, excellent health, dental, & vision benefits, and other great perks!

Where:

Downtown Vancouver in a beautiful office, very accessible by rapid transit.

When & How to Apply:

Swim Recruiting will be presenting the profiles of short-listed candidates directly to the hiring team. If you already have a Recruiter at SWIM, please reach out very soon. If you do not yet have a contact at Swim Recruiting, please hit ‘APPLY’ to send us your resume (preferably in MS Word format as it works best with our internal systems but PDF is also fine). Thank you!
