Original job description
React Developer, Electronic Trading Platform | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid Toronto
My client, one of Canada’s Big 5 banks, is hiring a React Developer for its electronic trading technology team. The team builds the platform institutional clients use to manage orders, control algorithmic trading strategies, and analyze execution in real time. Performance is central to the work: you’ll be building interfaces for streaming market data, live order flow, and dense grids that update constantly.
This is a hands-on role. It suits someone who writes excellent code and also thinks about how the whole application should be built.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain front-end applications using React, Redux (or similar), and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Build UIs that display real-time market data, order flow, and trading analytics without lag
- Work closely with product owners and UX/UI designers to turn complex trading workflows into clear, usable interfaces
- Integrate with backend services and APIs, including real-time data feeds
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code, and troubleshoot production issues
- Contribute to front-end architecture decisions and mentor other developers
What you bring
- 5–8+ years of front-end development experience, with deep expertise in React
- Strong JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
- Experience with modern state management (Redux, MobX, Zustand, or similar)
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous data handling
- A track record of building fast, high-performance UIs and solving rendering bottlenecks
- Proficiency with Git
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Strongly preferred
- Experience with AG Grid
- Experience with OpenFin
- Background in banking, capital markets, or trading platforms, especially building an order management system (OMS) in any asset class
- Financial data visualization experience
The details
- 6-month full-time contract
- Hybrid: 2 days per week onsite in Toronto
- Pay: $90–$120/hr depending on experience and engagement type (up to $100/hr T4 or up to $120/hr Inc.)
- This posting is for an existing vacancy
If you’ve built trading UIs, or the kind of real-time, data-heavy interfaces that translate well to one, I’d like to hear from you.
