Role Overview
The Senior Solutions Designer will design hosting and enterprise technology solutions based on service specifications, standards, policies, best practices, and cost models. The role supports application business requirements and project or initiative deliverables while contributing to the design, assessment, migration, implementation, and sustainability of large, complex technology environments.
The successful candidate will bring extensive backend development and enterprise integration experience, including REST Web Services, Java enterprise technologies, Spring Integration, middleware, enterprise service buses, databases, and cloud-based integration solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake
the design of hosting technology solutions based on service
specifications, standards, policies, best practices, and cost models to
meet application business requirements and project or initiative
deliverables.
- Apply
knowledge of integrated networking technologies, mainframe systems,
midrange servers, enterprise storage and SAN, and personal computer system
technologies.
- Apply
knowledge of directory and messaging standards, facilities infrastructure
and architecture management, service delivery processes, infrastructure
policies, procedures, direction, cost models, and procurement processes.
- Gather
business requirements and understand corporate I&IT information
mandates, information technology strategic plans, environments, and
standards.
- Participate
in the development of technology solutions and provide advice on
short-term and long-term solution and service development activities.
- Apply
knowledge of leading-edge technologies, design criteria, security and
recovery procedures.
- Prepare
technical specifications for the installation, testing, and performance of
integrated, multi-service systems.
- Assess
the performance and capacity of existing systems and make recommendations
for performance improvements.
- Develop
technical documentation.
- Plan,
migrate, implement, and sustain large, complex system development
projects.
- Evaluate
technology developments, trends, and new products for their application to
short-term and long-term technology requirements.
- Apply
basic knowledge of project management methodologies such as PMBOK,
analytical tools, and processes.
- Assess
and evaluate business needs and conduct cost-benefit analyses for new
technology requirements when planning and designing solutions.
- Design
and develop large, complex, highly available, mission-critical server
applications.
- Evaluate
existing systems to assess their condition, technical performance, and
capacity, and determine the need and feasibility of expansion, renovation,
or replacement.
- Lead
other developers as a Team Lead.
- Work
effectively as a team player and consistently meet deadlines.
Technical Skills | 30%
- 10+
years of backend design and development experience using REST Web
Services, JPA, Hibernate, databases, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Strong
expertise in enterprise integration design, including integration
patterns, technologies, design principles, and best practices.
- In-depth
knowledge of the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Integration, with
experience designing and building integration solutions.
- Strong
knowledge of message-oriented middleware and enterprise service buses such
as IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) or MuleSoft, with experience designing
and building solutions using these technologies.
- Experience
with integration technologies such as JMS, AMQP, and REST and an
understanding of their use within an Azure context.
- Hands-on
experience with integration technologies such as JMS, AMQP, and REST in an
Azure Integration context.
- Experience
with data models and databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
- Experience
with cloud-based integration solutions.
Development Skills | 25%
- 10+
years of backend design and development experience using REST Web
Services, JPA, Hibernate, databases, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Hands-on
experience with APIs, Message Queues, Middleware, and Enterprise Service
Bus (ESB) technologies.
- Experience
designing solutions from business requirements, particularly using UML,
JEE, Service Bus, and ETL.
System Analysis | 20%
- Experience
with system analysis, requirements gathering, and designing use cases.
- Experience
prototyping solutions for presentation to clients or senior management.
Communication Skills | 15%
- Excellent
analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong
interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Experience
facilitating and leading discussions with technical teams and business
stakeholders.

Public Sector Experience | 10%
- Experience
working with Enterprise Architecture within the Public Service, including following applicable standards, documentation artifacts,
and templates.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 10+
years of backend design and development experience using REST Web
Services, JPA, Hibernate, databases, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Strong
expertise in enterprise integration design, including integration
patterns, technologies, design principles, and best practices.
- In-depth
knowledge of Spring Framework, particularly Spring Integration, with
experience designing and building integration solutions.
- Strong
knowledge of message-oriented middleware and enterprise service buses such

- Experience
