The Role
As an AI Engineer Co-op at Symplistic.ai, you will work directly with our engineering team to design, develop, test, and deploy enterprise AI applications and AI agents.
You will gain hands-on experience building production software involving generative AI, agentic AI, retrieval systems, enterprise integrations, APIs, and modern software engineering practices. You will contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from technical research and prototyping through testing, deployment, and iteration.
Symplistic.ai is an enterprise AI company with operations in Canada and the United States. We build AI agents, enterprise AI products, and custom AI solutions that integrate with organizations' existing data, systems, and workflows.
What You'll Work On
- AI Application Development: Build AI agents and AI-powered software applications using Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, APIs, large language models, retrieval systems, and enterprise software technologies.
- Enterprise AI Integrations: Design and implement AI workflows and integrations between AI systems, APIs, databases, knowledge repositories, and customer applications.
- AI Research & Evaluation: Prototype, test, benchmark, and evaluate technical approaches to AI engineering challenges, including retrieval, agent workflows, model behaviour, accuracy, performance, and system reliability.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of Symplistic.ai products and internal engineering tools.
- Build and improve retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), knowledge retrieval, and AI-agent workflows.
- Develop backend services, APIs, data-processing pipelines, and integrations.
- Work with enterprise AI technologies, including IBM watsonx and other modern AI platforms.
- Participate in technical research, experimentation, prototyping, and performance evaluation.
- Test alternative approaches to engineering challenges and document technical results.
- Build automated tests and evaluate AI-system accuracy, reliability, and performance.
- Work with structured and unstructured enterprise data.
- Participate in code reviews and follow software engineering best practices.
- Maintain technical documentation, experiment results, and development records.
- Collaborate with engineers and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into production AI solutions.
- Contribute across the full software lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
What We're Looking For
You are currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Information Technology, or a closely related technical field.
Required Qualifications

- Interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, and agentic AI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in building production systems rather than only academic prototypes.
Experience with any of the following is an asset
- Large language models (LLMs) and generative AI
