Role Description:
- We are seeking a hands-on Integration Lead - API to lead the design and establishment of enterprise API integration capabilities using Microsoft Azure technologies.
- The primary focus of this role is to define API design standards and patterns, establish API versioning and lifecycle management strategies, develop reusable API engineering foundations, and provide technical leadership for API delivery. The role will also develop and deploy a small number of APIs to validate the architecture, patterns, and reusable framework.
- The role will collaborate closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Engineering, Information Security, and application teams. The expected technology stack includes Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Functions and/or AKS, .NET, Okta CIAM/M2M, and Azure Key Vault.
Responsibilities:
API Architecture and Design
- Translate enterprise integration patterns into detailed and implementable API designs.
- Establish standards for REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, naming conventions, error handling, timeouts, retries, resilience, security, and observability.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate Azure services and implementation approaches for API integration scenarios.
API Governance and Lifecycle Management
- Define the API lifecycle from design and development through publication, change, versioning, deprecation, and retirement.
- Establish API versioning and revision strategies, including backward compatibility and breaking-change management.
- Define API catalogue, documentation, ownership, onboarding, and publication standards.
API Foundation and Engineering Standards
- Design and build reusable API frameworks, templates, libraries, and reference implementations.
- Establish common components for logging, correlation, error handling, validation, transformations, backend connectivity, configuration, security, and resilience.
APIM and API Security
- Define and configure Azure APIM standards for API definitions, backend routing, policies, products/subscriptions, transformations, throttling, versions, and revisions.
- Establish authentication and authorization patterns using OAuth 2.0/OIDC, Okta CIAM, and Okta M2M.
- Integrate with Azure Key Vault for secure management of certificates, credentials, and secrets.
- Collaborate with Cloud Engineering and Information Security to implement approved security controls.
API Implementation, DevSecOps and Validation
- Develop and deploy a small number of APIs using Azure Functions and/or .NET applications on AKS to validate the established patterns and framework.
- Implement backend integrations, transformations, validation, exception handling, logging, and security.
- Establish CI/CD and automated deployment practices for APIs and APIM configurations.
- Establish API monitoring, telemetry, troubleshooting, and operational-readiness requirements.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Strong experience leading API architecture, detailed design, standards, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure API Management (APIM).
- Strong knowledge of REST, HTTP, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger, API versioning, revisions, backward compatibility, and deprecation strategies.
- Experience designing and implementing reusable API frameworks, templates, libraries, and engineering standards.
- Strong hands-on development experience with C#/.NET and Azure-based API solutions.
- Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0/OIDC, API authentication/authorization, and machine-to-machine security.
- Experience with Azure Key Vault, secrets, certificates, and secure credential management.
- Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in design, implementation, troubleshooting, testing, and deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Private Link / Private Endpoints and SaaS integrations.
- Hands-on experience with Okta CIAM and Okta M2M.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics.
- Familiarity with Bicep/Terraform and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience in financial services or other regulated environments.

- Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
- Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204)
- DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
