About The Role

This is an active, working foreman role. You will balance crew management and job-site coordination with hands-on ironworking, fitting, and welding. As our in-house field team grows, you will play a key role in mentoring apprentices and developing future site leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crew Leadership: Direct, supervise, and mentor an on-site crew of 5-10 ironworkers and welders, maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
  • Hands-On Trade Work: Actively assist with steel layout, fitting, tacking, bolting, rigging, and welding in accordance with project specifications and your certifications.
  • Blueprint Reading & Planning: Interpret structural engineering and erection drawings to map out daily task assignments, site workflow, and material stages.
  • Site Coordination: Oversee crane signals, critical lifts, heavy equipment staging, and material deliveries with general contractors and site superintendents.
  • Safety Leadership: Conduct daily toolbox talks, enforce company and OHS safety standards, identify hazards, and maintain a proactive zero-incident site culture.
  • Quality Assurance & Reporting: Inspect completed work against drawings, flag discrepancies early, and complete daily progress logs, safety sign-offs, and equipment checklists.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 6+ years of commercial structural steel erection, ironwork, and welding experience.
  • Leadership Background: Minimum 2 years as a Journeyperson Ironworker, or 1-2 years in a Foreman/Lead Hand capacity overseeing field crews.
  • Trade Certification: Recognized Journeyperson Ironworker certification (Red Seal / provincial trade ticket) or equivalent authorized trade standing.
  • Safety & Supervisory Credentials: Valid site supervisor training / leadership safety certification (e.g., Leadership for Safety Excellence or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills: Confident in structural layout, crane signalling, rigging practices, high-strength bolting, and on-site fitting.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Solid ability to read structural layouts, weld symbols, and erection drawings without constant supervision.

Strong Assets

  • Current CWB welding tickets applicable to structural field work.
  • Valid driver's licence with a clean commercial driving record.
  • Dual-trade capability across both structural ironwork and field welding.

Work Schedule & Travel Expectations

  • Work Location: Active commercial project sites throughout Alberta.
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 75% regional travel depending on project phase. Travel schedules, rotations, and lodging arrangements will be detailed during the initial interview.

What We Offer

  • Competitive, experience-aligned hourly rates with regular performance reviews.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (Extended Health, Dental, and Vision) following the standard 3-month probationary period.
  • Company vehicle and tooling supplied upon completion of probation.
  • Long-term career stability and clear advancement pathways into general site superintendency.
